The Dietitian role at Heritage Christian Services is a vital position within the healthcare team. Reporting generally to the Director of Nursing, the Dietitian exercises independent decision-making and clinical judgment in delivering nutritional support and consultation tailored to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Dietitian plays an integral role in assessing nutritional needs, designing and implementing holistic nutrition interventions, and developing nutrition programs. They collaborate closely with registered nurses, clinicians, and residential teams to coordinate effective medical and nutritional strategies. This role requires comprehensive expertise in nutrition, including healthy eating habits, managing acute and chronic diseases, addressing rare metabolic conditions, and handling food allergies. The Dietitian also provides guidance on weight management, GLP-1 medications, wound care, and overall quality of life improvement.

The responsibilities extend to managing enteral nutrition support, conducting thorough documentation such as care plans and progress notes, and maintaining transparent communication with individuals' guardians, nursing staff, and the Director of Nursing. The position involves referring cases to specialized clinicians when appropriate and delivering educational supports and in-service training for staff in nutrition, diabetes management, safety, and sanitation. Participation in various meetings, including individual service planning, case studies, and person-specific meetings, is expected. Additionally, the Dietitian may provide supervision and education services to dietetic students in cooperation with the Director of Nursing. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nutrition or related field
  • Credentialed through the Commission on Dietetic Registration and maintain credentials
  • Prior experience with developmental disabilities preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams
  • Strong communication and documentation skills

  • Flexibility to attend required meetings
  • Willingness to provide educational support and supervision for dietetic students

Job Qualifications

  • Must have a B.S. level degree in Nutrition or higher and be credentialed and maintain credentials through the Commission on Dietetic Registration
  • Prior experience with developmental disabilities preferable
  • Valid driver’s license in compliance with Heritage Christian Services’ motor vehicle record standards, and reliable transportation to and from work

Job Duties

  • Assess nutritional needs, develop and implement appropriate interventions taking a holistic approach to supporting people, develop nutrition programs when needed, and monitor/evaluate and report the results as needed
  • Confer and collaborate with registered nurses, clinicians, and residential teams in order to coordinate medical and nutritional interventions
  • Provide and create tools for individuals and direct support staff on a broad spectrum on nutritional needs including but not limited to: the basic of good nutrition, healthy eating habits, management of acute and chronic disease, rare metabolic conditions, food allergies, weight management, GLP-1 and weight management medications, wound care, nutrition monitoring, and improvement of quality of life
  • Provide insight into complex clinical and biochemical abnormalities and implement nutritional strategies for disease prevention and management
  • Assess and implement enteral nutrition support
  • Complete necessary documentation including assessments, staff supports, care plans, and progress notes as needed by referral from RN, ML, or physician
  • Maintain transparent communication with individual’s guardians, RN, staff, and Director of Nursing
  • Appropriately refer internally or externally to another specialized clinician if needed
  • Provide tools and/or in-servicing for staff in the areas of nutrition, diabetes, and safety and sanitation
  • Attend meetings as deemed necessary, as well as discipline specific meetings (i.e. ISP’s, case studies, person specific meetings)
  • May provide supervision and education services to local college dietitian students as approved by Director of Nursing
  • Other duties as deemed appropriate by supervisor
