The Dietitian position at Heritage Christian Services operates under the general direction of the Director of Nursing but allows significant latitude for independent decision-making and clinical judgment. This role is vital in providing person-centered nutritional support tailored specifically to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The dietitian is responsible for assessing nutritional needs, developing and implementing interventions, and monitoring their effectiveness through a holistic approach to care. The position involves working closely with registered nurses, clinicians, and residential teams to coordinate medical and nutritional care, ensuring comprehensive support for each individual.

In addition to direct nutritional consultation, the dietitian develops educational materials and tools for both individuals and direct support staff. These resources cover a broad spectrum of nutritional topics, including healthy eating habits, management of acute and chronic diseases, weight management, rare metabolic conditions, and wound care nutrition. The dietitian also provides expert insight into complex clinical and biochemical issues, implementing preventative and management strategies for various diseases. Another key responsibility involves managing enteral nutrition support and maintaining meticulous documentation such as assessments, care plans, and progress notes.

Communication plays a crucial role in this position, requiring the dietitian to maintain transparent and effective channels with individuals' guardians, healthcare staff, and leadership. The dietitian may also be involved in internal and external referrals to specialized clinicians when necessary and is responsible for training and in-servicing staff on nutrition, diabetes, and safety and sanitation protocols. Attendance at disciplinary and person-specific meetings, supervision of college dietitian students, and other duties as deemed appropriate by the supervisor round out the responsibilities of this vital role.

The salary range for this role is $60,405 to $70,000 per year, with compensation determined based on a variety of factors, including departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.
