Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a division of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a leading broadline distributor that serves a diverse range of customers including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries across the United States. With a commitment to delivering high-quality food products, the company prides itself on fostering close relationships with its customers through a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and industry experts. These professionals work collaboratively to provide valuable advice on menu development, operational strategies, product selection, and overall business improvement, enabling independent restaurant owners and foodservice operators to realize their goals and enhance their operations.
As part of PFG, Performance Foodservice is recognized for its inclusive and respectful work environment that values employee growth and well-being. The company offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes day one health and wellness benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, 401(k) employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and more. Their culture emphasizes safety, rewards, recognition, and respect, ensuring that employees feel valued and motivated to contribute to the success of the company and its customers. Performance Foodservice is also committed to equal employment opportunity, maintaining policies that protect employee rights across diverse backgrounds including race, gender, age, disability, and veteran status.
The CDL-A Driver position at Performance Foodservice plays a vital role in the food supply chain by ensuring timely and safe delivery of food and food-related products to customers. This role involves driving tractor trailers or straight trucks on regional routes, which include 3-5 day layovers and require extensive travel. Drivers typically work a schedule of 4-5 days per week, starting between 11 PM and 3 AM. Compensation for this role features a component pay structure with average pay ranging between $90,000 and $100,000 annually. Additionally, a sign-on bonus of $10,000 (with terms and conditions) is offered to eligible candidates, emphasizing the company's investment in attracting experienced and reliable drivers.
In this role, the CDL-A Driver is responsible not just for the physical transportation of goods but also for building relationships with customers. Drivers represent the face of Performance Foodservice and are expected to interact professionally with customers, vendors, and co-workers, providing excellent customer service, answering questions accurately, and ensuring that delivery appointments are met precisely. The role also requires strict adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety standards to guarantee the safe handling of freight.
Key responsibilities include performing thorough safety inspections of the vehicle and trailer before and after trips, ensuring freight is loaded correctly and securely, maintaining accurate records and paperwork, and reporting any safety or mechanical issues promptly. Drivers must be capable of manually handling freight involving various weights, utilize equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates, and work collaboratively within the broader team to support the company’s mission. The company values and expects drivers to uphold company policies, safety guidelines, and a commitment to delivering exceptional service consistently.
Performance Foodservice offers a rewarding career opportunity for CDL-A Drivers who are dedicated, safety-conscious, and customer-focused. The company’s supportive work environment, competitive pay, and comprehensive benefits package make it an attractive employer in the foodservice logistics sector. Joining Performance Foodservice means being part of an organization that genuinely cares about its people and the critical role they play in supporting America’s food distribution system.
