Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a division of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a leading broadline food distributor dedicated to serving a diverse range of customers that include independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and fast-food eateries. The company has built its reputation on forming strong relationships with local customers through a team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and industry experts who provide valuable advice on operational improvements, menu development, product selections, and strategic business planning. With a focus on supporting independent restaurant owners and other clients, Performance Foodservice goes beyond simply delivering products — it helps its customers achieve their long-term goals by offering tailored solutions and exemplary service.
Performance Foodservice thrives on its commitment to diversity and inclusion, operating in a safe and respectful work culture that rewards dedication, encourages teamwork, and values every employee. The company offers competitive pay and comprehensive benefits starting from day one, including health and wellness benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and a range of other perks that emphasize employee growth and well-being. Its work schedule typically spans 4 to 5 days per week, with shifts starting between 11 PM and 3 AM, reflecting the nature of its delivery operations that are critical to maintaining the flow of food products through the supply chain.
The CDL-A Driver position at Performance Foodservice plays an essential role in the company's mission to support America’s food distribution system. Drivers are entrusted with operating tractor trailers or straight trucks on both intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, overnight, and drive-and-drop routes. This role is vital in ensuring that food and food-related products are delivered efficiently, safely, and on schedule to customers. Drivers are often the face of the company, fostering excellent customer relationships as they interact directly with clients. The role requires strict adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, company safety standards, and a high level of professionalism and reliability.
In this position, drivers perform important safety inspections on vehicles before and after trips, report maintenance concerns, verify freight counts and secure loads, and complete detailed delivery paperwork with accuracy. The position demands physical capability for lifting and handling products ranging from 10 to 90 pounds using equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates. Drivers must collect payments when necessary, manage customer returns, and maintain clean and orderly equipment and trailers. Attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a commitment to safety and customer service are crucial for success in this role.
Performance Foodservice also offers a $10,000 sign-on bonus for eligible candidates who have not been employed by any PFG company in the past 24 months. This opportunity highlights the company's desire to attract dedicated and experienced professionals to its growing team. The CDL-A Driver role at Performance Foodservice is an excellent career opportunity for those interested in playing a pivotal role in the food service delivery industry while enjoying a supportive work environment, comprehensive benefits, and pathways for career advancement.
