Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a key division of Performance Food Group (PFG), serves as a broadline food distributor catering to a diverse clientele across the United States. This includes independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. Performance Foodservice is known for its strong local presence and personalized service approach, helping customers with product selection, menu development, and operational strategies through a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and industry experts. The company prides itself on supporting the foodservice industry by ensuring smooth food distribution and working closely with clients to enhance their business operations. Recognized for its competitive pay and comprehensive benefits, PFG provides an inclusive and safe working environment, promoting growth and development for its employees.
The CDL-A Driver role at Performance Foodservice is a vital position within the company’s distribution network. This full-time position typically offers a component pay structure with average earnings ranging from $90,000 to $100,000 annually. Drivers operate primarily on regional routes with 1-3 day layovers, working a schedule of 4-5 days per week with start times between 11PM and 3AM. The company offers an extensive 5-week paid training program based in Portland to prepare drivers effectively for their roles. Additionally, a sign-on bonus of $10,000 is available, subject to eligibility criteria.
In this role, CDL-A Drivers are responsible for safely transporting and delivering food and food-related products using tractor trailers or straight trucks. Their duties involve driving intrastate and interstate routes, including over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, overnight, and drive-and-drop assignments. Drivers must adhere to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety standards while ensuring timely and accurate deliveries to customers. Acting as the face of the company, drivers foster positive relationships with customers by providing excellent service and professionalism.
Safety is a paramount focus, with drivers required to perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections, secure freight properly, and maintain compliance with federal, state, and company policies related to vehicle operations and hours of service. The ability to use onboard electronic systems such as PeopleNet and hand-held delivery scanning devices is essential for maintaining accurate delivery records and customer information.
Performance Foodservice emphasizes a supportive company culture that values employee contributions through recognition programs, rewards, and a commitment to diversity and inclusion. The company offers comprehensive benefits starting from day one, including health and wellness coverage, a 401(k) with employer matching, employee stock purchase plans, education assistance, and paid time off. This role represents an excellent career opportunity for drivers seeking stability, growth, and a chance to play a crucial part in sustaining America's food distribution system.
