The CDL-A Driver position at Performance Foodservice plays a vital role in the nation’s food supply chain by ensuring timely and secure delivery of food and related products across regional routes. Drivers are typically scheduled for 4-5 days per week, starting their shifts between 11 PM and 3 AM, with a 5-week paid training program based in Portland to prepare them thoroughly. The role offers an average salary between $90,000 and $100,000 and includes a $10,000 sign-on bonus with specific terms and eligibility. As the face of the company, CDL-A Drivers build strong, lasting relationships with customers and vendors by providing professional and reliable service.
In this role, drivers operate tractor trailers or straight trucks across intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over-the-road, shuttle, overnight, and drop-and-drive assignments. They are responsible for maintaining compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies to guarantee the safety and integrity of the load. Essential functions include conducting thorough pre- and post-trip safety inspections, securing freight properly, completing accurate paperwork, and effectively unloading damaged goods or returns. Drivers use onboard computer systems and handheld scanning devices to manage delivery records and ensure smooth operational efficiency.
Adherence to safety standards is paramount in this role, and drivers are expected to report any hazards or repairs immediately while following all record-keeping and service hour requirements. The position demands physical capability to lift and handle freight up to 60-90 pounds and requires a strong command of English for communication and documentation purposes. Success in this role not only hinges on driving and logistic expertise but also on excellent customer service skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
Performance Foodservice is dedicated to equal employment opportunity, embracing diversity and inclusivity in its workforce. The company complies with all applicable laws and regulations regarding non-discrimination and strives to maintain a fair and equitable workplace for all employees. Those joining PFG have the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the essential function of keeping America’s food distribution system moving efficiently and safely every day.
