Job Description

Performance Foodservice is a leading broadline distributor under Performance Food Group (PFG), providing a comprehensive range of foodservice products to a diverse array of customers including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. With a dedicated team comprised of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other skilled experts, the company not only focuses on food delivery but also emphasizes building lasting customer relationships and supporting clients through operational advice, menu development, and product selection strategies. This approach enables Performance Foodservice to help independent restaurant owners and other clients thrive in a competitive marketplace. The company is proud of its inclusive and supportive workplace culture that values safety, respect, recognition, and growth opportunities for its employees.

The CDL-A Driver role at Performance Foodservice is a critical position within the company’s food distribution network. This role involves operating tractor trailers or straight trucks to deliver food and related products safely and efficiently across regional routes which typically involve 1-3 day layovers. Drivers work 4-5 days per week, with shifts starting between 11 PM and 3 AM, and receive 5 weeks of paid training in Portland to ensure they are fully prepared. The job offers an average pay range of $90,000 to $100,000 and includes a $10,000 sign-on bonus for eligible candidates.

Drivers play a vital role in maintaining the integrity of the food supply chain by ensuring timely delivery while maintaining the quality and condition of the products. Beyond simply transporting goods, they act as representatives of the company, building customer relationships and providing professional communication with customers, vendors, and coworkers. Responsibilities include pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, securing and inspecting freight, complying with record-keeping and hours of service regulations, and handling unloading and returns. The driver must uphold strict safety standards and adhere to company policies while working as a cooperative team member.

This position requires individuals to have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least six months to a year of commercial driving experience, preferably within the foodservice distribution industry. Experience with onboard computer and electronic log systems such as PeopleNet, as well as handheld point of delivery scanning systems, is highly valued. Candidates must be at least 21 years old, meet state licensing and certification requirements, pass a pre-employment drug test, and meet PFG’s Motor Vehicle Report and FMCSA Clearinghouse compliance criteria. Physical capability to lift and manage freight weighing between 60 to 90 pounds and operate equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates is essential.

Performance Foodservice offers an attractive benefits package, emphasizing employee health and wellness starting from day one, stock purchase plans, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off among other incentives. The company prides itself on providing a safe and inclusive work environment and promotes growth opportunities within the organization. As an equal employment opportunity employer, Performance Foodservice is committed to diversity and nondiscrimination in all aspects of employment. This role not only offers a competitive salary but also a fulfilling career path in one of the most essential sectors - food distribution and logistics.
