Job Description
Performance Food Group (PFG) is a leading broadline distributor specializing in foodservice delivery across the United States. With a network built on strong relationships with independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries, PFG provides essential goods to a diverse set of customers. The company prides itself on a team composed of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and operational experts who work closely with clients, offering tailored advice to improve operations, enhance menu development, and optimize product selection. This approach ensures that PFG not only delivers quality food products but helps clients to grow and succeed in their respective markets. As a major player in the food distribution industry, PFG combines a commitment to excellence with a focus on safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
The role of a CDL-A Driver at Performance Food Group is key to the efficient operation of this supply chain. Drivers are responsible for the safe and timely delivery of food and food-related products, serving as the critical link between the company's distribution centers and its customers. This position involves operating tractor trailers or straight trucks on local, regional, and interstate routes, working schedules that typically span 4-5 days per week with start times between 11 PM and 3 AM. The pay structure is competitive, with average compensation ranging from $90,000 to $100,000 annually, accompanied by a $10,000 sign-on bonus for eligible candidates.
CDL-A Drivers play a multifaceted role that includes completing thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections in compliance with Department of Transportation regulations, securing freight, and maintaining detailed and accurate records of deliveries. They use onboard computers and electronic logging devices to track their hours and routes, utilizing hand-held point-of-delivery scanning systems to document freight handling. The position demands adherence to strict safety and regulatory guidelines to ensure all freight arrives in great condition, while also maintaining a professionalism that reflects positively on PFG’s reputation. Drivers interact directly with customers and vendors, resolving queries and building lasting relationships that foster trust and satisfaction. This is a job that requires physical stamina for lifting freight, attention to detail for record-keeping, and a commitment to PFG’s values of respect, inclusion, and rewards. The company supports its employees through various benefits, including health insurance from day one, employee stock purchase plans, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and more, which further solidifies PFG as an employer of choice within the food distribution sector.
By joining Performance Food Group as a CDL-A Driver, individuals take on a vital role in supporting America's food supply system. They become part of a dynamic and inclusive workplace culture that emphasizes safety, growth, and recognition. This makes the position ideal for those seeking long-term career opportunities in transportation and logistics within a respected and socially responsible organization.
