Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a division of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a leading broadline foodservice distributor dedicated to providing high-quality food products and exceptional customer service to a diverse range of local customers. These customers include independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company prides itself on fostering close relationships with its customers through a team of knowledgeable sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and industry experts. This team not only delivers delicious food but also offers valuable advice on improving operations, menu development, product selection, and overall business strategies. Performance Foodservice is deeply committed to helping independent restaurant owners and businesses succeed, offering a supportive and innovative approach that goes beyond just product delivery.
The CDL-A Driver role at Performance Foodservice plays a vital part in ensuring the efficient and safe delivery of food and food-related products, supporting America’s food distribution system. This position involves driving tractor trailers or straight trucks on intrastate and interstate routes, including regional routes with 1-3 day layovers. Drivers work a schedule of 4-5 days per week, typically starting between 11 PM and 3 AM, with a comprehensive 5-week paid training program based in Portland. The role offers a competitive component pay structure averaging between $90,000 and $100,000 annually. Additionally, there is a $10,000 sign-on bonus available, with eligibility terms that exclude those who have worked for any PFG-owned company within the last 24 months.
The CDL-A Driver is responsible not only for the timely and safe delivery of products but also for maintaining strong, positive relationships with customers, vendors, and coworkers. Drivers are the face of the company and play a crucial role in upholding the company’s reputation for reliability and professionalism. The position requires adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, including conducting thorough safety inspections before and after each trip, maintaining accurate records of hours of service, and ensuring all freight is properly loaded, secured, and handled. Drivers are expected to unload damaged goods and customer returns and ensure all equipment is maintained and kept clean.
This role demands a high level of professionalism, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety. Drivers must effectively communicate with customers and internal teams, answering questions and resolving issues promptly. The position offers substantial growth opportunities within the company, a safe and inclusive working environment, and culture emphasizing rewards, recognition, and respect. Performance Foodservice provides excellent benefits starting from day one, including health and wellness benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and many other employee-focused perks.
