The CDL-A Driver position at Performance Food Group offers a compelling opportunity for professional drivers to become an integral part of the country’s food supply chain. This role is essential in ensuring timely, safe, and efficient delivery of food and food-related products to PFG’s customers across regional routes that may include 1-3 day layovers. Drivers operate tractor trailers or straight trucks to execute intrastate and interstate deliveries on varied routes such as local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight drive and drop schedules. The role requires adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, maintaining safety standards, and providing exceptional customer service as the face of the company.

The position works under a component pay structure with an average salary ranging from $90,000 to $100,000 annually, reflective of experience and performance. Drivers work 4-5 days per week with starting shifts between 11 PM and 3 AM. New hires benefit from five weeks of paid training based in Portland, ensuring a strong foundation in safe driving practices and operational protocols. Additionally, the role includes a significant sign-on bonus of $10,000, subject to eligibility conditions.

Key responsibilities for the CDL-A Driver revolve around safety checks, compliance with DOT regulations, secure loading and unloading of freight, accurate record-keeping, and fostering positive customer interactions. Drivers perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of their equipment, verify shipment contents against invoices, secure cargo, and manage the unloading of damaged goods and customer returns. Furthermore, drivers utilize various onboard technologies, including electronic logging devices and hand-held delivery scanning systems, contributing to efficient and accurate delivery operations.

This position requires candidates to have at least six months to one year of commercial driving experience, preferably within the foodservice distribution sector. Familiarity with onboard computer systems like PeopleNet and point-of-delivery scanning is highly advantageous. Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED, meet all state licensing requirements, and be proficient in English to ensure clear communication with customers and team members.
