Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in parks and recreation administration or related field
  • or six years of direct experience in lieu of degree
  • minimum one year experience in parks and recreation or related field
  • leadership experience preferred
  • basic first aid, CPR and AED certification within three months of hire
  • ability to recruit, supervise and evaluate staff
  • strong organizational and communication skills
  • proficiency with social media and marketing
  • budget preparation and financial monitoring capabilities
  • physical ability to oversee program setup and facility operations

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in parks and recreation administration or related field preferred
  • six years of direct experience may substitute for a four-year degree
  • combination of education and experience may be considered
  • minimum one year experience in parks and recreation or related field preferred
  • leadership experience preferred
  • basic first aid, CPR and AED certification required within three months of hire
  • Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) preferred

Job Duties

  • Recruits, selects, supervises, trains, and appraises volunteer and part-time personnel
  • maintains accurate payroll records
  • develops and implements diversified recreational programs
  • promotes assigned division activities and programs
  • schedules classes, programs, facilities, and special events
  • evaluates activities through observation and surveys
  • oversees marketing efforts including social media
  • updates and maintains website and event pages
  • assures availability of proper equipment and maintains inventory
  • manages daily cash receipts and facility opening and closing
  • maintains personnel and payroll records
  • prepares work schedules for direct reports
  • enforces park and recreation rules and regulations
  • ensures participant safety
  • assists in budget preparation and monitors financial compliance
  • purchases necessary supplies and equipment
  • develops instructional or recreational curricula and teaches programs as needed
  • coordinates volunteers for programs and events
  • collaborates with other departmental divisions
  • secures and monitors contract service providers
  • collects and responds to patron feedback
