Job Description
The City of League City is a vibrant community that prioritizes providing diverse and inclusive recreational programs and events for its residents. Known for its commitment to high-quality community services, the city offers a range of recreational opportunities designed to enhance the well-being and engagement of all residents. The local Parks and Recreation Department actively organizes city-wide festivals, holiday celebrations, recreational tournaments, and community engagement programs that bring people together and foster a sense of community. With a focus on accessibility and inclusivity, League City ensures that recreational activities are available to individuals of all abilities, helping to create a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone.
The Part-Time Adaptive Recreation Specialist role plays a crucial part in this mission by supporting the planning, coordination, and delivery of specialized programs and community events. This role is tailored to support two key service divisions: Special Events and Adaptive Recreation. The specialist helps manage front-line interactions with residents, assists with logistics and operational needs, and works closely with staff to ensure that all recreational experiences are safe, inclusive, and enjoyable. Special Events responsibilities include event setup, supporting vendors and volunteers, assisting participants, and facilitating crowd flow to maintain a safe and welcoming environment. On the other hand, the Adaptive Recreation side focuses on programs designed for individuals with disabilities or differing abilities, ensuring these programs are inclusive, accessible, and empowering. This involves modifying activities as needed, providing participant support, and fostering respect and equal participation.
This position demands a commitment to safety and inclusivity, as well as the ability to manage multiple responsibilities like program evaluation, inventory management, maintaining accurate registration records, and supporting various staff and community partners. Because this role is safety-sensitive, it is subject to random drug screening in line with the City’s policies. Working part-time, the Adaptive Recreation Specialist must be versatile, detail-oriented, and passionate about community service, delivering quality programs that meet the diverse needs of League City’s residents. In addition to core duties, the specialist may also assist with marketing, promotional activities, and additional support during peak periods or special events, demonstrating flexibility and dedication to community recreation.
