The Recreation Activity Coordinator will be expected to handle program registrations, manage facility rentals, and coordinate schedules for a variety of recreational activities. Additionally, this role demands an individual who can adapt to different situations, enforce policies consistently, and assist with light maintenance duties to uphold the functionality and safety of the recreational spaces. Active communication with patrons through in-person, telephone, email, and social media channels is a key aspect of the job, ensuring that community members remain well-informed and engaged.

The ideal candidate will also take initiative in creating recruitment strategies to maximize program participation, work on building partnerships with like-minded organizations, and occasionally manage the recreation center in the absence of the center supervisor. The ability to sometimes operate city vehicles to facilitate transportation for program participants or attend events and field trips adds another dynamic dimension to this role. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in recreation, leisure services, or related field preferred
  • Ability to work nights and weekends
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to enforce rules and regulations fairly
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Ability to handle customer inquiries and complaints professionally
  • Ability to perform light maintenance tasks
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision

Job Duties

  • Develop, lead and evaluate programs and activities in a recreation center or park facility
  • Provide customer service, registration, and handling of funds in a recreation center or park facility through telephone, emails, web site, social media and walk in patrons and customers for information, program registration, center daily use and rentals
  • Ensure safety of participants/spectators involved in after-school, summer, or other recreational programs
  • Enforce rules and regulations
  • Collect fees and take registrations for recreational programs and facility rentals
  • Assist in light maintenance of facilities and recreational areas
  • Handle inquiries and complaints from public
  • Drive city vehicles to transport participants or commute to different locations
  • Assist with department events and field trips
  • Serve as manager on duty if Center Supervisor is not available
  • Schedule activities and facility space for various groups and organizations
  • Create recruiting strategies for program participation
  • Create partnerships with other like agencies to maximize participation levels
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
