The Recreation Program Supervisor position within the City of Richmond's Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Facilities plays a crucial role in delivering exceptional recreational services and coordinating special events across the city. This role requires a dynamic leader adept in managing multiple recreational programs, scheduling, and permit processing for numerous facilities, including Mid-town Green, Dogwood Dell, various community centers, parks, and park facilities. The Supervisor will work directly under the Recreation Program Manager for Special Events and Permits, assisting in the strategic planning, coordination, and implementation of city-wide events such as ribbon-cutting ceremonies, Juneteenth celebrations, the Grand Illumination, film productions, and other community activities.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced recreation professional to make a significant impact on community engagement and public enjoyment through effective programming and event management. The role involves supervising staff, interns, temporary employees, and volunteers, conducting performance evaluations, managing the day-to-day operational activities, and serving as the lead operational supervisor during designated events and programs. Additional duties include creating reports, maintaining equipment, issuing facility permits, and updating standard operating procedures.

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership abilities, exceptional organizational skills, and a deep understanding of recreational programming and public facility management. The role requires availability to work weekends and evening events, as well as the capability to conduct site tours and interact professionally with internal and external customers. Knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Office Suite, RecTrac Financial Software, Rapids, and Adobe InDesign is essential, along with skills in budgeting, records maintenance, and interpreting relevant laws and city policies.

The City of Richmond values diversity and inclusion, providing equal employment opportunities to all applicants and employees. Reasonable accommodations are available to qualified individuals under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The physical demands of the position include the ability to perform medium work, occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds and frequently engaging in activities such as walking, standing, stooping, and balancing in various environmental conditions.
