The Big Bear Valley Recreation and Parks District, a vital component of the Special Districts Department, is dedicated to enhancing community life by providing diverse and enriching recreational opportunities in the scenic mountain area of Big Bear, approximately 1 hour and 45 miles from downtown San Bernardino. Job Requirements
- Ability to work in the Big Bear Valley
- willingness to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays
- possession of a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance at time of hire
- obtain and maintain a Class B driver license within six months of hire
- successful background check prior to assignment
- meet health and physical condition standards set by the department
- obtain and maintain CPR/AED certification within 12 months of hire
- legal right to work in the United States
- no visa sponsorship available
Job Qualifications
- Associate's degree or higher in physical education, sports medicine, kinesiology, recreation, fitness, recreation/park administration, public administration or a closely related field preferred
- two years of full-time experience coordinating youth, adult, and/or senior activities in relevant settings
- certification or documented experience in coaching or refereeing team sports is highly desired
- American Red Cross Training certification preferred
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification desirable
- Water Safety Instructor, Certified Pool Operator (CPO), or Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO) certification and aquatic management experience advantageous
Job Duties
- Plan and develop recreation programs and special events
- coordinate youth activities, aquatics, and youth and adult sports
- manage senior citizen programs and special interest classes
- oversee staff and volunteers assisting with recreational programs
- ensure safety and quality standards are met in all activities
- engage with the community to assess recreational needs and preferences
- maintain required certifications and licenses relevant to program delivery
