Job Description

The Big Bear Valley Recreation and Parks District, a vital component of the Special Districts Department, is dedicated to enhancing community life by providing diverse and enriching recreational opportunities in the scenic mountain area of Big Bear, approximately 1 hour and 45 miles from downtown San Bernardino. This organization plays an essential role in promoting the safety, health, and well-being of local residents by offering a variety of municipal services and community-focused programs designed for all age groups and interests. The department manages several service areas such as water and sanitation, television, parks and recreation, roads, street lighting, conservation, and land use assistance within the unincorporated areas of the County. The Recreation Program Coordinator position is a dynamic and integral role within this department, responsible for the planning, development, and coordination of a wide range of recreation programs and special events. This includes youth activities, aquatics, youth and adult sports, senior citizen programming, and specialized interest classes, all designed to meet the varied recreational needs of the community. Job Requirements

  • Ability to work in the Big Bear Valley
  • willingness to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays
  • possession of a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance at time of hire
  • obtain and maintain a Class B driver license within six months of hire
  • successful background check prior to assignment
  • meet health and physical condition standards set by the department
  • obtain and maintain CPR/AED certification within 12 months of hire
  • legal right to work in the United States
  • no visa sponsorship available

Job Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or higher in physical education, sports medicine, kinesiology, recreation, fitness, recreation/park administration, public administration or a closely related field preferred
  • two years of full-time experience coordinating youth, adult, and/or senior activities in relevant settings
  • certification or documented experience in coaching or refereeing team sports is highly desired
  • American Red Cross Training certification preferred
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification desirable
  • Water Safety Instructor, Certified Pool Operator (CPO), or Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO) certification and aquatic management experience advantageous

Job Duties
