The role of Recreation Programs Manager at The Woodlands Township is a critical position responsible for overseeing the planning, supervision, budgeting, marketing, and evaluation of multiple recreation programs including special events and outdoor activities. This position involves managing various facets of recreation services to ensure they run smoothly, comply with all local, state, and federal regulations, and meet the needs and expectations of the community. As a key leader, the Recreation Programs Manager is tasked with developing innovative programs that promote community engagement, coordinating facilities and resources efficiently, ensuring safety protocols and accident prevention programs are in place, and overseeing all aspects of staffing including recruitment, training, and performance management. The position requires working closely with staff, volunteers, contractors, and community members to deliver exceptional services and foster a positive environment. Additionally, the manager will be responsible for budgeting activities, monitoring expenses, preparing purchase orders, and generating detailed reports on program attendance, revenue, and operational efficiency. The role also demands active participation during emergency conditions, where the manager may be called upon to provide critical support and services. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in Parks and Recreation Management or related field
  • one year of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • must possess a Texas driver's license within 90 days of employment and meet driver safety policy requirements
  • pass pre-employment drug screening
  • pass background check
  • eligible status on Motor Vehicle Report
  • proficiency in MS Office
  • ability to perform emergency service duties during disaster or emergency conditions

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation Management or related field
  • one year of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • proficiency in MS Office
  • strong leadership and supervisory skills
  • knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations related to recreation services
  • ability to plan, implement, and evaluate recreation programs
  • excellent communication and organizational skills
  • experience in budget preparation and financial monitoring
  • ability to develop promotional materials and effectively market programs
  • capacity to manage multiple programs and coordinate staff and resources
  • CPRE or First Aid & CPR Instructor certification preferred

Job Duties

  • Oversee multiple recreation programs including special events and outdoor recreation
  • greet and assist visitors and direct to appropriate area or person
  • develop, implement, and promote a variety of recreation programs and community-wide events
  • establish rules and procedures for efficient operation of facilities and programs
  • monitor program compliance with laws and regulations
  • recruit, train, and evaluate part-time, seasonal, volunteer, and contract staff
  • conduct staff meetings and training sessions
  • assist with budget preparation and expense monitoring
  • check out/in equipment and monitor inventory
  • prepare facilities for activities and ensure proper maintenance
  • prepare reports on facility use and financials
  • develop and monitor accident prevention and safety programs
  • maintain files of user contracts, insurance, and permits
  • prepare promotional materials and market programs
  • solicit monetary and in-kind sponsorships
  • evaluate facility operations and recommend improvements
  • conduct surveys and analyze program data
  • develop schedules for instructional programs and special events
  • coordinate registration and collect fees
  • assist with recreation programs, events, and special projects
  • work at special events during nights, weekends, or holidays as needed
  • perform other related duties as assigned
