The role of Recreation Coordinator at the City of Hollywood involves responsible work in public parks, recreation, and cultural arts within major recreational facilities, assigned areas, or districts. The incumbent plays a key role in coordinating and implementing a wide range of recreation programs and community events for the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Arts (PRCA). The Recreation Coordinator also has responsibilities related to public communication, such as writing news releases and ensuring media coverage of activities. They ensure compliance with city policies including background check procedures for youth programs, and are expected to exhibit professionalism, fairness, and inclusivity across all interactions within the diverse community the city serves.

Job Requirements
- Associate's degree from an accredited University or College in Parks and Recreation, Physical Education, Sports Management or related field
- Minimum of three years experience in parks and recreation or related field
- CPR and First Aid Certification including AED within six months of hire
- Valid driver's license with proof of automobile insurance
- Must pass background check with an acceptable record
- Must have an acceptable driving record
Job Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Parks and Recreation, Physical Education, Sports Management or related field
- Three years of experience in parks and recreation or related area
- Ability to plan, organize and supervise recreation services
- Knowledge of municipal parks, recreation and cultural arts programming
- Skills in directing recreation, cultural and athletic programs
- Ability to maintain effective professional relationships
- Knowledge of relevant laws, ordinances and regulations
- Ability to prepare professional reports and maintain records
- CPR and First Aid Certification including AED within six months of hire
- Valid driver’s license with proof of automobile insurance
- Background check clearance

- Knowledge of first aid and safety practices
- Ability to use computer programs including Recware, Microsoft Word and Excel
Job Duties
- Plan and execute recreation, cultural arts and athletic activities and events to address community needs
- Organize and supervise work of subordinate staff, contractors and volunteers
- Make recommendations on hiring and discipline and provide input for employee evaluations
- Operate related equipment, office machinery, computers and job software
- Utilize the City’s Recware computer program
- Prepare operational records and reports including monthly activity reports, timesheets, surveys, schedules, purchase requisitions and registrations
- Plan and direct sports tournaments, special events, aquatic programs and field trips
- Administer facility use and permits and prepare news releases and grant applications
- Serve as liaison and make presentations to community groups, sponsors, and organizations
- Supervise facility and field repair and maintenance with Public Works
- Prepare reports, monitor budgets and handle financial transactions
- Monitor vendor contracts to ensure compliance
- Solicit corporate sponsors and grants
- Enforce City’s Youth Program Background Check policy
- Respond to inquiries and assist visitors
- Collaborate positively with coworkers and community members
