Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in parks and recreation administration, physical education, or related field
- Three years of progressively responsible experience in supervision, operation, and management of recreation facilities and programs
- Knowledge of outdoor recreation program planning, risk management, personnel procedures and policies, budgeting and purchasing procedures
- Proficient communication skills
- Ability to supervise and motivate staff and volunteers
- Ability to manage budgets and maintain records
- Ability to coordinate with community organizations and contractors
- Ability to handle emergency situations
- Capable of developing and enforcing facility rules and policies
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in parks and recreation administration, physical education, or a closely related degree
- Three years of progressively responsible experience in the supervision, operation, and management of recreation facilities and programs or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Knowledge of outdoor recreation program planning, risk management, personnel procedures and policies, budgeting and purchasing procedures, and techniques for working effectively with community organizations
- Ability to supervise and motivate employees and volunteers
- Proficient oral and written communication skills
- Ability to promote outdoor recreation activities and events
- Skill in budgeting for outdoor recreation programs and supplies
- Ability to maintain accurate records of athletic facility revenue, attendance and operational costs
- Experience in maintaining athletic facility inventory
- Capable of developing preventive maintenance programs
- Ability to establish and administer athletic facility rules and policies
- Skilled in managing emergency situations
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, community organizations, and the general public
- Experience in advertising and promoting outdoor recreation programs
Job Duties
- Oversees the development, scheduling and implementation of recreation programs
- Works with associated divisions and departments to promote and advertise programs and events
- Develops and updates outdoor recreation facility rules, policies and procedures and publishes associated materials and manuals
- Maintains accurate records of program revenues, attendance and operating costs
- Regularly evaluate fees for fee-based programs and provide recommendations for adjustments
- Works with community organizations and contracted instructors in planning and organizing recreation
- Assists the Recreation Manager in supporting the development of the budget and manages the division budget within the department
- Assists the Recreation Manager with developing short- and long-term goals, objectives and operating procedures for the recreation division
- Issues and processes purchase orders for equipment purchases and approves purchases up to $3,000 without approval from supervisor
- Performs regular inventory of outdoor recreation equipment and supplies
- Develops and updates multi-generational programs that build partnerships and works across multiple City departments
- Works closely with the public and community organizations
- Coordinates and conducts special projects and programs as assigned
- Performs other related duties as may be assigned
