The Recreation Coordinator or Recreation Supervisor position plays a crucial role within this dynamic department. This full-time, non-exempt role offers a salary range of $40,622 to $58,488 per year and provides an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about sports and community programming to make a meaningful impact. The role requires a motivated self-starter who possesses excellent communication and organizational skills to plan, promote, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate a variety of comprehensive sporting, recreation, and leisure programs.

The role encompasses managing youth sports programs such as baseball, softball, flag football, volleyball, basketball, and swim lessons, as well as engaging with toddler, adult, and senior programs. The individual will collaborate with various stakeholders including program participants, parents, volunteers, coaches, officials, vendors, and contractors. Responsibilities also extend to managing multiple programs simultaneously at different locations, handling independent contract relationships, and maintaining program budgets and inventories for supplies, uniforms, trophies, and equipment.

In the capacity of a Recreation Supervisor, additional leadership duties include collaborating with the Parks and Recreation Director for program evaluations, overseeing concession operations, and identifying opportunities to expand programming offerings to meet the evolving needs of the community. This role requires keen analytical skills to assess community needs, problem-solving abilities to implement effective programming, and proven leadership capabilities to supervise and mentor staff.

Job Requirements

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in parks and recreation, youth development, sports management, or a related field preferred
  • Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) Certification or the ability to achieve certification within the first year of employment preferred

Job Duties

  • Communicate effectively and frequently with program participants, parents, volunteers, coaches, and contractors
  • must have strong time management skills and have ability to prepare programs a season in advance
  • plan, promote, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate current youth recreational sports programs to include baseball, softball, flag football, volleyball, basketball, and swim lessons
  • manage multiple programs at multiple locations simultaneously
  • manage independent contract positions such as instructors, officials, vendors, referees, etc
  • participate in job-related committees, sub-committees, and professional development activities
  • collect program fees and monitor program expenditures
  • purchase program supplies, uniforms, trophies, prizes and equipment and maintain and control inventory
  • provide excellent customer service
  • utilize computer software including spreadsheets, word documents, and specific recreation software to plan, organize, communicate and maintain programs and work activities
  • effectively use advertising and marketing practices to best promote programming and activities to citizens and potential users
  • solicit physical and financial support and engagement from volunteers, local organizations and sponsors
  • collaborate with Director to complete post-program evaluations to include patron feedback, program success and failures, program budget monitoring report, and implementation plans for future seasons/programs
  • manage the concession program including staff, volunteers, facilities, supplies, schedules and budget
  • identify the needs of the community and feasibility of the department to expand programming to youth and create programming in the areas of tiny-tots, adult and senior adult programs
  • assist with preparing and administering individual program budgets as appropriate
