The Parks & Recreation Department plays an integral role in enriching community life through a variety of wellness, recreational, and educational programs. The Community Programs Division is currently seeking a dedicated Recreation Coordinator to lead and manage older adult programs. The Recreation Coordinator will be responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing engaging activities targeted at older adults. Job Requirements
- Ability to attain a valid Class C California driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record
- willingness to serve as a disaster service worker as required by California Government Code Section 3100
- ability to work effectively with recreation professionals in a professional setting
- possess a community public service orientation
- capability to evaluate community needs and develop programs accordingly
- strong organizational skills
- clear and concise oral and written communication abilities
- ability to follow directions and accept constructive criticism
- ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in recreation or related field or equivalent experience
- experience planning, organizing and conducting programs for older adults in community-based senior centers or similar settings
- knowledge of recreational, cultural arts and wellness program administration
- strong communication and interpersonal skills
- ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- budget management experience
- experience with volunteer recruitment and training
- proficiency in record-keeping and report preparation
Job Duties
- Plans, implements and schedules programs, activities and special events for older adults, volunteers and dial-a-ride transportation services
- assists with part-time staff, contractor and volunteer recruitments, trainings, schedules and evaluations
- maintains statistical, attendance and program activity records
- prepares written and oral reports on assigned programs
- participates in and administers program budgets
- provides written input on budget development including staffing, cost and revenue estimates
- monitors expenditures as assigned
- assists with the development of promotional marketing materials and distributes publicity about recreation offerings
- performs other duties as assigned
