The Recreation Coordinator position within the City of Grapevine is a full-time role responsible for assisting in the planning, promotion, development, implementation, and supervision of various recreational programs and activities. This role involves overseeing a broad spectrum of community engagements such as aquatics, field trips, transportation logistics, special events, leagues, tournaments, and hospitality services. Working closely with City departments, community organizations, vendors, and volunteers, the Recreation Coordinator ensures programs are well-organized and meet the community’s needs. Key responsibilities include marketing programs through various media, recruiting and supervising part-time and temporary staff, managing facility scheduling and logistics, and ensuring compliance with safety and health regulations.

The position requires a proactive approach and flexible scheduling capabilities, with duties potentially extending to early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays depending on program demands. It offers a dynamic work environment that balances administrative duties with hands-on program coordination, providing an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about community recreation and event management. Job Requirements

  • must have a bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education training and experience
  • cpr and first aid certification required within first six months of hire
  • must pass federal national criminal background check credit check and have valid texas driver's license
  • must have physical ability to accomplish job tasks and work outdoors
  • must pass pre-employment physical drug screen and functional assessment screening level 2
  • must be available to work nights weekends holidays as required
  • must have working knowledge of planning overseeing activities and camps for youth if assigned to youth programs
  • must obtain facility manager food handlers certification if assigned to hospitality within six months
  • must possess or obtain american red cross lifeguard certification within six months if assigned to aquatics
  • must obtain food handlers certification within six months if assigned to active adults
  • must be able to work with pool chemicals and equipment if required

Job Qualifications

  • bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education training and experience
  • knowledge of programs various sports and leisure activities
  • ability to work day evening weekend hours
  • ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • skill in dealing effectively and efficiently with the public
  • physical ability to perform assigned tasks
  • ability to drive a 15 passenger van bus
  • specific knowledge and certifications depending on assigned specialty area such as American Red Cross Lifeguard certification Facility Manager Food Handlers certification or experience in therapeutic recreation

Job Duties

  • assist in planning organizing and supervising recreational programs activities special events leagues tournaments transportation field trips hospitality concessions and projects
  • inform the community of recreational opportunities through advertising and promotions
  • coordinate with city departments community organizations vendors volunteers and school districts regarding facility scheduling
  • coordinate programs with other city personnel to inform them of activity involvement and assistance
  • recommend hiring of part-time casual and temporary staff and contractors
  • direct train schedule and evaluate staff and assist with payroll
  • provide quality customer service including greeting public answering phones providing information and registering participants
  • investigate and resolve citizen complaints concerning programs events classes instructors or facilities
