Job Description

The City of Santee is a vibrant community located in San Diego County, California, known for its commitment to providing exceptional recreational and special event opportunities for its residents. The city prioritizes the development and implementation of programs that enhance the quality of life, encourage community involvement, and promote healthy lifestyles. With a focus on inclusivity, diversity, and community engagement, the City of Santee’s Recreation Department offers a wide range of recreational activities and special events designed to meet the needs of all age groups, from youth to seniors. These programs include but are not limited to teen centers, day camps, sports leagues, senior activities, field trips, and other community-based initiatives aimed at fostering social connections and personal growth.

This position, under the direction of a Special Events or Recreation Program Supervisor, plays a critical role in the planning, development, and execution of complex recreational programs and special events. The role involves coordination across multiple recreational activities such as Teen Center programs, classes, camps, special events, sports, and senior activities, along with the management of city and park facility usage and rental permits. This is a hands-on position that requires a proactive approach to program development, staff supervision, and community interaction. The individual will be responsible for organizing and coordinating events and field trips, including participant transportation, while ensuring all aspects of the programs meet the set goals and objectives.

Moreover, this position involves leadership responsibilities including training and supervising subordinate recreation staff, volunteers, and independent contractors, and providing performance feedback. The role is also tasked with creating promotional materials such as social media posts, newsletters, calendars, flyers, and brochures to effectively communicate program offerings and reach the community. The incumbent will actively engage in cost recovery efforts, fundraising, and donation solicitation to support the recreational programs financially. Communication with parents, participants, volunteers, and the public will be essential for the successful delivery and management of programs and events. Additionally, the role encompasses administrative duties such as budget input and program reporting to evaluate and convey program effectiveness.

This is a non-telecommuting position that demands presence at various city venues and events. The position requires a dynamic individual who possesses excellent organizational, leadership, communication, and customer service skills. Experience in coordinating recreational programs and events, along with the ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays when necessary, is essential. The City of Santee values employees who are committed to community service, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Candidates interested in applying should be prepared to undergo a thorough background check and meet all special requirements outlined by the city, including possessing a valid California driver’s license and meeting health and safety standards.

Employment with the City of Santee is highly rewarding with opportunities for professional growth, contributing meaningfully to the community, and working within a dedicated team environment that values innovation and excellence. This position offers an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of community recreation and event management, playing a pivotal role in enhancing the social fabric of the city through well-coordinated, engaging, and impactful programs and special events.
