Job Description

The Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Community Recreation program is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for service members, their families, and the broader community by providing a diverse range of recreational and leisure activities. Operating under the Navy MWR mission, this program emphasizes creating meaningful and engaging experiences that foster community spirit, promote wellness, and support the overall morale of those it serves. MWR Community Recreation offers a comprehensive suite of activities and services, including special events, recreational trips, tours, parties, and various community gatherings. These activities are designed to accommodate individuals of all ages and interests, ensuring accessibility and enjoyment for everyone involved. Additional amenities managed by the program include bowling, libraries, Liberty services, grab-n-go options for convenience, movie screenings, and the management of outdoor recreational green spaces. The scope of services also extends to equipment rental for parties and picnics, resale ticket services for events, and support for fleet and visiting ships, making it a versatile and vital resource within the community. This position is specifically for residents of the island of Kaua'i and plays an integral role in the successful delivery of these services. The role involves a variety of duties that support the effective running of the Community Recreation program by assisting in the planning, organizing, and administration of recreation activities and special events. A key portion of the job involves direct interaction with customers, ensuring excellent service delivery through informed guidance, resource provision, and engagement in events and activities. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in customer service, coupled with experience or knowledge related to recreational activity-based functions. They must have the ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. This role also requires comprehensive knowledge of the principles and techniques used in leisure activity management, as well as familiarity with Navy MWR operations and the adaptability of activities for various audiences. Physical demands of the role include moderate to considerable exertion, such as standing for long periods, walking, lifting items up to 40 pounds, and occasional lifting of heavier items. Work settings are varied, encompassing both indoor office environments and outdoor locations where events and outings occur. Flexible availability is essential, with the incumbent expected to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as event needs dictate. Overall, this employment opportunity offers a dynamic and rewarding environment for individuals passionate about community engagement, recreation management, and providing outstanding service to the Navy community and its families.
