Job Description

The Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Community Recreation program plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for military personnel, their families, and the broader community it serves. This program is designed to offer a diverse range of recreational activities and services that foster community engagement, promote wellness, and provide enjoyable leisure opportunities. The MWR initiative on the island of Kaua'i supports numerous activities such as special events, recreational trips, tours, party and picnic rentals, resale ticket services, and management of green recreational spaces. Additionally, it encompasses specialized services including bowling, library access, Liberty programs, grab-n-go services, movies, and outdoor recreation, all tailored to meet the dynamic interests and needs of service members and residents.

The role within the MWR Community Recreation program is integral, involving a variety of duties to support these multifaceted services. This position is tailored for current residents of Kaua'i and is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about recreation, excellent customer service, and event coordination. The individual in this role will be responsible for organizing and administering a wide array of activities ranging from command events and community outreach to fleet support and tourism-related excursions. Success in this position requires a blend of creative event planning, logistical coordination, customer engagement, and operational support to ensure that all programmed activities are executed smoothly and effectively.

This role requires the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, making sound decisions in a dynamic environment. Candidates must possess strong communication skills, both oral and written, as they will be liaising with participants, team members, and command personnel. A thorough understanding of the Navy MWR mission is essential, alongside familiarity with the principles, techniques, and procedures involved in leisure activity planning and execution. The work environment is varied, encompassing both indoor office settings and outdoor event locations, sometimes requiring irregular hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Physical demands are significant, involving tasks that may require standing for long periods, walking, bending, and lifting moderately heavy equipment and supplies, sometimes up to 40 pounds or more. Flexibility and stamina are important, as the position will oversee activities ranging from physical recreation to administrative documentation and report generation. Candidates must also demonstrate proficiency in computer use, office procedures, and potentially print production to support effective communication and resource management within the program.

Overall, the MWR Community Recreation program offers a unique and fulfilling career opportunity for those committed to enriching the community’s recreational landscape. Its mission underscores the provision of quality leisure experiences that enhance morale and welfare, making this role both impactful and rewarding. Being a part of this team means contributing to a supportive, engaging environment where service members and their families can relax, connect, and enjoy memorable experiences on the island of Kaua'i.
