Job Description
Kindred Hospital San Gabriel Valley is a specialized long-term acute care hospital with a capacity of 76 beds, focusing on comprehensive and extended recovery treatment for patients requiring prolonged hospitalization. Unlike traditional hospitals that cater to acute, short-term medical conditions, this hospital provides continued care for patients who need intensive medical support over an extended period. Situated just over two miles from downtown West Covina and conveniently near Covina Square Shopping Center, Kindred Hospital offers accessible care to the surrounding community with a commitment to quality and partnership with physicians to facilitate patient recovery and wellness. The hospital operates with a patient-centered approach, ensuring 24-hour clinical care available seven days a week, emphasizing the importance of ongoing medical attention during the recovery process. Their services reflect an understanding of the critical nature of long-term care, offering an environment conducive to healing and rehabilitation with a dedicated clinical team and supportive infrastructure.
The role of a Telephone Operator at Kindred Hospital San Gabriel Valley is central to the smooth and efficient operation of the hospital's communication system. Responsible for managing the console telephone switchboard, this position ensures that incoming, outgoing, and interoffice calls are routed promptly and correctly to the appropriate departments or personnel. This role requires a courteous and professional demeanor, as the Telephone Operator serves as the first point of contact for visitors, vendors, physicians, and staff. Greeting visitors and providing information regarding hospital policies such as parking and visitation guidelines forms a key part of the responsibilities. The role also demands quick and accurate response capabilities during critical situations, including paging code blue alerts, fire emergencies, stat calls, and other urgent communications by following established hospital protocols.
Beyond call management, the Telephone Operator maintains essential logs and files, including hospital personnel directories, patient information, and emergency contacts, to expedite communication and ensure readiness in case of emergencies. This includes actively monitoring the hospital's main entrance for emergency patients and coordinating with clinical managers as necessary to guarantee urgent care is promptly facilitated.
The position requires excellent communication skills, proficiency in English, and regular, reliable attendance to sustain the high operational standards of Kindred Hospital. This role is ideal for individuals who excel in dynamic, fast-paced healthcare environments and are adept at multi-tasking, problem-solving, and maintaining confidentiality. The role does not require travel, and prior experience is not mandatory, although familiarity with hospital operations or telephone switchboard management would be an advantage.
Kindred Hospital San Gabriel Valley offers competitive compensation at a rate of $21.00 per hour. The hospital values its employees and provides a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance; a 401(k) plan; flexible spending accounts (FSA) and health savings accounts (HSA); life insurance; paid time off; and wellness programs. This reflects the hospital's commitment to supporting the health, financial security, and overall well-being of its workforce, making it an excellent opportunity for those seeking to contribute meaningfully to patient care in a vital administrative capacity within a respected healthcare institution.
