Job Description
The Oregon Board of Pharmacy is a vital regulatory body committed to ensuring public health, safety, and welfare across the state of Oregon. Established in 1891, the board oversees the practice of pharmacy by enforcing laws related to pharmacy staff, drug outlets, and the sale of drugs. By licensing pharmacists, pharmacy interns, and pharmacy technicians, the board guarantees that only qualified individuals are permitted to practice pharmacy in Oregon. Moreover, the board is responsible for registering and inspecting retail and hospital pharmacies, stores that sell over-the-counter drugs, drug wholesalers, and manufacturers. Their regulatory efforts extend to maintaining control over the quality and distribution of all drugs within the state.
The Oregon Board of Pharmacy is currently seeking a Receptionist (Office Specialist 2) for a temporary or job rotation position based in their Portland office. This employee role offers an hourly wage typically ranging from $3,515 to $4,738 per month, depending on qualifications, and it is expected to last approximately six months, with possible extensions or conversion to permanent status based on funding and agency needs. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, supporting the agency's mission to provide high-quality service and operational efficiency.
In this role, the receptionist will provide specialized clerical and technical support for the daily functions of the licensing and registration program. The position requires interacting with individuals and facilities regulated by the board, offering customer service with professionalism and efficiency. Key responsibilities include managing a high volume of telephone calls, processing payments and reconciliations, entering data into databases or customer record management systems, and utilizing Microsoft Office 365 tools such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams. The ideal candidate will be agile to change, a self-starter, and quick learner, with strong communication and organizational skills.
The Oregon Board of Pharmacy prides itself on promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEI-B) within the organization and the public it serves. They emphasize fair treatment, equal access to medications, and support for unique and diverse community needs. The Board encourages people of color, veterans, and individuals with disabilities to apply for this opportunity.
This position requires candidates to obtain and maintain Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) clearance and Oregon Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) certification. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States; those requiring visa sponsorship will not be considered. The hiring process includes a computerized criminal history check, which may affect the final decision if adverse data is found.
The Receptionist role offers an excellent chance for professional growth, with career development opportunities within state government. Additional benefits include access to Oregon's carpool and trip planning tools, the potential for Public Service Loan Forgiveness, and the chance to live, work, and play in vibrant Portland, Oregon. The Board is dedicated to supporting employees through competitive pay, benefits, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace environment.
