The role of the Receptionist, Oral Surgery, at St. Luke's University Health Network is vital in supporting the oral surgery practice’s administrative and patient care functions. This position is designed for a compassionate individual who serves as a passionate patient advocate, creating a unique and exceptional patient experience. The receptionist is instrumental in driving a patient-centric culture by managing diverse administrative service tasks while ensuring smooth operational workflow. Responsibilities include welcoming patients, managing appointment scheduling, handling patient check-ins and check-outs, verifying insurance eligibility in real time, and facilitating patient inquiries and form requests with professionalism and accuracy.
Beyond routine administrative duties, the Receptionist, Oral Surgery also facilitates the daily operations of the practice by overseeing practice opening and closing procedures, managing cash reconciliation, processing incoming mail and deliveries, and maintaining practice cleanliness. This role requires exceptional communication skills as the receptionist performs queries for providers regarding documentation and coding to support billing accuracy. Additionally, the receptionist prepares treatment plans based on insurance coverage and provides patients with clear and precise cost estimates for their procedures, promoting transparency and informed decision-making.
Physical and sensory requirements for this position include the ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods, use fingers for patient care and computer-related tasks, and occasionally lift supplies and assist with patient mobility. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, with a preference for candidates who have completed administrative training programs and possess previous practice-based or healthcare customer service experience. Familiarity with dental processes, coding, and terminology is highly valued.

Job Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Administrative training program graduation preferred
- One year practice-based experience or similar healthcare setting preferred
- Familiarity with dental processes coding and terminology
- Ability to sit stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to use fingers for patient care writing and computer entry
- Capability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
- Ability to push carts with supplies up to 30 pounds
- Ability to push wheelchairs with patients weighing up to 325 pounds
- Ability to stoop bend and reach above shoulder level
- Ability to hear normal conversation and have good general near and peripheral vision
Job Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Preference given to graduates of an administrative training program
- Preferred one year practice-based experience or in a similar healthcare setting
- Familiarity with dental processes coding and terminology
- Customer service experience
Job Duties
- Performs administrative service delivery functions with patients including answering phones check-in chart preparation and filing obtaining referrals and x-rays patient consent check-out pre-registration and real-time eligibility verification registration appointment/testing scheduling at check-out point of service payment collection and addressing patient inquiries
- Facilitates practice opening and closing procedures maintenance of practice cleanliness processing of incoming mail and deliveries cash management and reconciliation and prompt scanning and indexing incoming faxes
- Performs queries to providers regarding documentation diagnosis coding and procedural coding
- Enters all charges creates and releases clean claims daily
- Creates treatment plan based on insurance coverage and provides accurate estimate to patient of out-of-pocket costs for procedures
- Creates patient correspondence for referring doctors
- Other related duties as assigned
