This medical center is recognized as the longest continually operating hospital in Des Moines and holds the distinction of being Iowa's largest medical center with 802 available beds. It is also one of the largest referral centers in the Midwest, providing comprehensive and compassionate care to a vast population. MercyOne Central Iowa employs more than 7,000 colleagues and has nearly 1,500 physicians and allied health professionals on its medical staff, making it one of the prominent employers in Iowa.
As a strong advocate of personalized and radically convenient care, MercyOne Central Iowa embodies the mission to enhance the health of the communities it serves. The system emphasizes a holistic approach to healthcare whereby they focus not only on treating medical conditions but also on promoting overall wellness and prevention. The organization supports professional growth and offers a full benefits package, fostering a work environment built on the principles of respect, dignity, and inclusiveness. MercyOne is firmly committed to equal employment opportunities and values the diverse experiences and perspectives that each employee brings to the team.
The role of Clinic Receptionist at MercyOne Central Iowa is a full-time, day-shift position that plays a critical part in delivering this patient-centered service. The Clinic Receptionist is the welcoming face at the front desk, greeting patients and visitors with professionalism and interpersonal warmth. This position involves a variety of important administrative responsibilities including managing patient flow efficiently, scheduling appointments according to office guidelines, and handling a high volume of phone calls effectively. The Receptionist is also tasked with verifying insurance eligibility, entering patient demographics and insurance details accurately into the Electronic Health Record and related systems, and determining time-of-service payments, including collecting copays and any past due balances.
In this role, strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask are vital as the Receptionist ensures compliance with regulatory and clinic policies during the patient check-in process. The Receptionist must maintain confidentiality regarding patient information and demonstrate integrity and honesty in all interactions, reflecting the mission, vision, and values upheld by MercyOne and Trinity Health. The position requires candidates to have a high school diploma or equivalent, certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers within three months of hire, and completion of mandatory abuse reporter training. Excellent English communication skills and a caring, motivated personal presence are also essential to inspire trust and promote a positive healthcare experience.
