The position of Receptionist at Jerome High School is a vital role within the Academics and Student Learning department. This full-time, overtime-eligible role reports directly to the Building Administrator and is fundamental in establishing effective school-public relations. The Receptionist serves as the first point of contact for visitors, students, teachers, and staff, providing a welcoming, courteous, and professional atmosphere at the front office. Critical day-to-day responsibilities include greeting visitors, answering phone calls promptly and efficiently, managing student graduation records, and overseeing the organization of essential office materials and communications. In addition, the Receptionist supports the overall safety of the school environment by supervising students in the clinic during absences of nursing personnel and managing lost and found items.

This role also requires organizational skills to coordinate student office workers, prepare office mailings, maintain confidential student records, and facilitate important student activities such as photo identification cards and yearbook pictures. The Receptionist is expected to exemplify professional behavior, emotional stability, sound judgment, and uphold confidentiality at all times. They must foster cooperative professional relationships within the school community and serve as a positive role model for students by promoting ethical principles and democratic values.

The role operates on a 211-day work schedule, including 183 workdays and 8 paid holidays, with 8-hour workdays excluding lunch breaks. The pay range for this position is between $21.49 and $23.75 per hour, in accordance with the negotiated agreement. Job Qualifications

  • A reasonable skill in typing, filing, and operation of common office equipment

  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable

Job Duties

  • Greets all visitors, students and teachers courteously, determines their needs, checks appointments, and directs or escorts them to the proper person
  • Answers office telephone and responds appropriately to requests for information
  • Organizes diplomas for graduation, records and monitors all graduation assignments
  • Coordinates the efforts of the student office workers
  • Oversees students in clinic when nurse is not present
  • Copies and organizes materials for office staff
  • Receives and routes mail to appropriate person
  • Files materials such as student records
  • Organizes and distributes interim reports (4 times a year)
  • Processes materials for bulk mailing, including folding, labeling, etc
  • Maintains lost and found box
  • Facilitates student photo I.D. cards and yearbook pictures
  • Ensures the safety of students
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relationships
  • Remains free of any alcohol or nonprescription controlled substance and abuse of any prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout employment in the district
  • Exhibits professional behavior, emotional stability, and sound judgment
  • Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, and intelligent human beings
  • Understands the legal responsibility to help instill in students the belief in, and practice of, ethical principles and democratic values
  • Maintains confidentiality and respect for confidential information at all times
  • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee
