Job Description
Cleveland Clinic is a world-renowned healthcare organization recognized for its commitment to excellence in patient care, cutting-edge research, and advanced surgical techniques. Located at its Main Campus, the Clinic boasts an environment where technology and compassionate caregiving come together to deliver outstanding medical services. Known globally for its top-tier cardiovascular care, the Clinic also fosters a culture of collaboration and support, encouraging a team-oriented approach to healthcare that benefits patients, families, and employees alike. Joining Cleveland Clinic means becoming part of a respected institution steadfastly dedicated to innovation, patient satisfaction, and caregiver growth.
The role of Receptionist in the J3 patient waiting lounge is vital within this dynamic healthcare setting. Serving as the initial point of contact for families and visitors of the Coronary ICU, Heart Failure ICU, and Cardiac Short Stay units, the Receptionist is entrusted with creating a welcoming atmosphere for guests. This position demands a compassionate and empathetic individual who can effectively coordinate visitation processes and facilitate smooth communication between families and clinical teams. The Receptionist manages important responsibilities such as greeting visitors, scheduling visits in compliance with unit guidelines, and escorting family members to appropriate patient care areas.
Working in this role means making a meaningful impact on the patient and family experience at Cleveland Clinic. As often the first face families see, the Receptionist helps set the tone for trust, comfort, and reassurance during what can be a stressful time. This position contributes directly to the organization's commitment to delivering world-class patient care while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and sensitivity to personal circumstances.
The position is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, with some weekend coverage and rotating holidays when required. This work schedule offers a structured environment while allowing the Receptionist to be part of a caregiving team that values support and respect for each member’s role. Ideal candidates typically possess a high school diploma or GED with at least one year of related experience, while additional education such as college coursework or business school is preferred.
In this role, the Receptionist must possess strong communication skills, both in person and over the phone, as they routinely take messages, route calls efficiently, and maintain privacy in accordance with Cleveland Clinic’s confidentiality policies. Physical requirements include the ability to remain stationary for extended periods and proficiently operate office equipment like computers and telephones. Personal protective equipment protocols must be followed diligently to ensure a safe work environment for patients, families, and staff.
By joining Cleveland Clinic in this capacity, individuals grow their career within a prestigious healthcare community that values empathy, dedication, and professionalism. The focus on patient-centered care and family support, combined with a collaborative workplace culture, makes this an enriching opportunity for healthcare professionals passionate about making a difference.
