Job Description

Gates Chili Central School District is a public school district located in the state of New York. Dedicated to fostering curiosity, growth, and diversity within its school community, the district prides itself on creating an inclusive environment that celebrates and embraces differences. The district actively strives to dismantle exclusion, bias, racism, and prejudice of all forms among its students, staff, and wider community. As a public education provider, Gates Chili CSD is committed to maintaining a welcoming and supportive learning and working environment that fosters equity and respect for everyone.

The district is currently seeking a full-time Receptionist to join their District Office support staff. This position is supervised by the Director of Human Resources and plays a vital role in ensuring smooth daily operations at the district office by managing front desk activities. The receptionist is responsible for greeting and welcoming visitors with a friendly demeanor, conducting security checks by scanning visitor licenses into the Raptor system, directing visitors to their appropriate destinations, and answering multi-line telephone calls with professionalism and courtesy. Additionally, the receptionist sorts and distributes incoming mail and deliveries, helps maintain office security, and keeps the reception area organized and inviting.

In this role, clerical duties such as organizing mailings and creating security badges for employees are also part of the responsibilities. The receptionist supports parents and guardians during the registration process and assists with special projects as needed. The position requires the ability to work independently, take initiative, and engage positively with a diverse group of individuals including students, staff, parents, and community members. A key aspect of the role is maintaining confidentiality regarding sensitive information related to students and employees.

The role is full-time, with an 8-hour workday based on a 12-month schedule aligned with the school calendar. The hourly pay rate is $16.40, and the position qualifies for district contributions toward health, vision, and dental insurance, as well as paid personal, sick, and vacation time benefits. The successful candidate will demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills, composure in stressful situations, and a willingness to participate in professional development programs that focus on equity, diversity, and inclusion. Prior experience working in a school setting and with diverse populations is desired but not mandatory, and no specific educational credentials are required for this position. The work environment consists of typical office and school building settings, and occasional travel between district schools and offices may be required.

Overall, this receptionist role at Gates Chili Central School District offers an excellent opportunity for individuals who are friendly, organized, and committed to supporting a positive and inclusive school community. The receptionist serves as the first point of contact for visitors and plays an essential part in maintaining the district’s welcoming atmosphere and operational efficiency. This position is ideal for applicants seeking to contribute to public education through meaningful administrative support within a diverse and equity-focused district office environment.
