Job Description

The Bristol County Sheriff’s Office is a respected law enforcement agency dedicated to ensuring public safety and the effective operation of its correctional facilities. Located in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts, the agency serves the community with integrity, professionalism, and a strong commitment to justice. The Sheriff's Office operates with a focus on maintaining secure environments, supporting rehabilitation, and providing quality service to both inmates and the public. As an employer, the office fosters a work culture that values respect, diversity, and equal opportunity, ensuring an inclusive workplace free from discrimination based on sex, race, color, age, gender, ancestry, military status, religion, handicap, disability, genetics, gender identity, gender expression, national origin, sexual orientation, or any other protected class.

The Receptionist position at the Dartmouth House of Correction, a facility under the Bristol County Sheriff’s Office, is a part-time role offering 16 hours per week with a competitive pay rate of $20.00 per hour. This non-union position reports directly to the Chief of Staff, providing essential front-desk support to the facility. The primary responsibility of this role is to manage the flow of communication and visitors at the reception area in a professional and orderly manner. The receptionist acts as the initial point of contact for visitors and callers, setting the tone for the facility’s public interaction through courteous and efficient service.

This role involves receiving, screening, and connecting all phone calls, which requires good communication skills, discretion, and the ability to prioritize messages effectively. In addition, the receptionist is responsible for placing outgoing calls on behalf of the facility when necessary. Maintaining accurate records is a crucial part of the role, including logging visitors in and out and verifying their valid identification to ensure security protocols are followed. Handling incoming mail and packages carefully and in a timely fashion is also part of routine duties. Since the receptionist embodies the facility's first impression, maintaining proper decorum and a professional reception area is critical to the role’s success.

Additional responsibilities may include various other tasks as assigned by the Sheriff, demanding adaptability and a willingness to support the office’s diverse needs. Those interested in applying for this opportunity should submit their applications through the official Bristol County Sheriff’s Office website by July 22, 2026. This position is ideal for individuals who are detail-oriented, possess excellent interpersonal skills, and are comfortable working in a structured correctional facility environment. The schedule includes weekends off, specifically Saturday and Sunday, allowing for a balanced work-life arrangement. Overall, the role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the community's safety and engagement through essential administrative and communicative support at a respected local government agency.
