Job Description
Gilbert Unified School District is a respected educational institution committed to providing a supportive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for students at all levels. Among its facilities is Highland Junior High, which serves as a focal point for educational development in the community. The district prides itself on fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect and cooperation among staff, students, parents, and the broader public. As part of their mission to support efficient school operations, they are seeking to hire a Receptionist to join their support staff. This role is a non-classroom position focused on frontline communication and administrative support within the school environment.
The position of Receptionist at Highland Junior High is vital to the daily functioning of the school. The successful candidate will serve as the first point of contact for visitors, parents, students, and staff, managing all inquiries with professionalism and courtesy. This position requires the ability to operate a multiline telecommunication system, respond to phone calls, provide information, and direct inquiries or referrals appropriately. Additionally, the receptionist will be responsible for ensuring that substitute teachers are assigned correctly and will prepare the necessary documentation for their assignments. Beyond managing communication, the role involves a variety of clerical duties including record keeping, scheduling, distributing mail and supplies within the site, and maintaining accurate files in compliance with district, state, and federal regulations.
This is a nine-month, hourly position classified under job grade 106 with a starting pay rate of $16.07 or higher depending on experience. The work calendar is aligned with the academic year, supporting the school’s operational needs. The job demands a combination of routine problem-solving skills, light physical effort, and strong human relations abilities to effectively manage contacts and maintain smooth workflows. Performance conditions include a standard office environment with occasional exposure to varying physical conditions and the need to adapt to changes or disturbances in the work schedule.
The role is ideal for someone with at least a high school diploma or equivalent and related job experience, who is capable of handling multiple responsibilities and communicating clearly with a diverse range of people. The candidate must have or be able to obtain a valid Arizona DPS Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card prior to employment, underscoring the importance of safety and trust in a school setting. Working as a receptionist in a school district like Gilbert offers not only stable employment but also the opportunity to be part of an educational community that values professionalism, responsiveness, and teamwork.
