The role offered is centered around the renowned RAGBRAI event, the world’s largest and longest-running annual bicycle ride, which attracts over 20,000 riders and participants globally from all 50 U.S. states and more than 20 countries. This role is based in Des Moines, Iowa, and requires active in-office participation, offering an annual base salary between $45,000 and $50,000. The position is ideal for individuals with a passion for event operations, cycling, and community engagement. As a key player in the RAGBRAI event's success, the candidate will manage large-scale event planning, operational execution, and participant experience enhancement. Responsibilities include collaborating with local towns on event logistics, managing a sizable crew of over 70 team members, coordinating campground assignments, liaising with public works and vendors, and overseeing the Charter program connecting various stakeholders. The candidate will also handle vehicle reservations, budget tracking, documentation for financial payments under the Give Back program, and support the creative team with event mapping tools. During event week, the successful applicant will be the face of the RAGBRAI Information Tent, providing direct customer service to participants. Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in event management, sports and recreation management, or similar field preferred
- 1-3+ years of experience in event operations or a similar field
- Strong interpersonal skills with an emphasis towards participant experience
- Effective organization and time management skills
- Strong leadership abilities and initiative
- Quick decision-making and problem-solving abilities
- Reliant, self-paced worker that can proactively strategize on future responsibilities
- Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment
- Passionate and enthusiastic for the event and/or cycling industry
- Based in Des Moines, IA requiring in-office participation
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Plan, produce, and execute operational components for assigned events from contract execution through post-event closeout
- Partake in advance travel meetings to assist towns in their preparations including identifying and assigning campground spaces
- Oversee the Charter program and serve as the primary liaison between Charters, Overnight Towns, and RAGBRAI
- Manage the RAGBRAI Crew of 70+ people including assigning positions, interviewing and hiring candidates, communicating pre-event logistics, and processing payments
- Reserve all rental vehicles for the week of RAGBRAI and the Route Inspection in June
- Collect and track necessary documentation from host communities to process financial payments as part of the RAGBRAI Give Back program
- Actively work with RAGBRAI Staff to project, track and adhere to annual budgets
- Assist RAGBRAI Creative Director in creation and implementation of Overnight Town maps using Google MYMAPS software
- Support RAGBRAI staff in planning and execution of various annual events
- Command the RAGBRAI Information Tent and provide customer service to all participants during event week
- Perform other duties as assigned
