As part of its commitment to excellence, St. Charles Health System continuously invests in advanced technologies and professional development opportunities to support its staff and enhance patient outcomes.

The Radiation Therapist position within St. Charles Health System’s Cancer Services department provides a critical role in delivering specialized oncological care. This position is based in the Radiation Oncology division in Bend, Oregon, and is designated as a full-time role with a typical 40-hour workweek scheduled Monday through Friday. The employment is a regular caregiver type, subject to the Oregon Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals (OFNHP) bargaining unit with step placement determined based on years of relevant experience. Compensation for this role ranges from $50.65 to $75.49 per hour, with additional shift differentials for evening, weekend, and night shifts.

In this role, the Radiation Therapist is responsible for accurately administering prescribed radiation therapy treatments to cancer patients with minimal supervision. The cancer center itself is a comprehensive facility providing holistic cancer care services including chemotherapy, medical oncology, infusion services, integrative medicine, nutrition counseling, social work, survivorship programs, and other supportive care treatments. Radiation Therapists at St. Charles are integral to the patient care continuum, assisting in tumor localization, simulation, treatment planning, and meticulous documentation of patient progress and therapy sessions.

The position demands a high level of expertise and professionalism in operating advanced radiation therapy machines and simulators. The therapist must understand the complex functions and capabilities of treatment equipment to maximize treatment efficacy while maintaining patient safety. Beyond technical proficiency, this role requires compassionate interaction with patients, many of whom are seriously ill or terminal, providing emotional support alongside clinical care. The Radiation Therapist also ensures adherence to safety protocols and regulatory compliance, maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality and ethical conduct in all patient interactions and organizational procedures.
