The Quality Inspection - Guitar/Amp Tech position is a full-time role based at the Union City distribution center. The role offers a competitive hourly wage between $20 and $22, depending on experience. This position plays a critical part in maintaining the high standards of Yamaha Guitar Group’s products by performing detailed inspections and testing on a range of guitar-related items including guitars, basses, ukuleles, nylon-string guitars, and amplifiers. The role involves hands-on assembly and testing of amplifiers and speaker cabinets, ensuring each product meets the company’s rigorous quality specifications.

The ideal candidate is passionate about musical instruments and has strong technical skills, particularly in guitar setup and repair. They should be detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable working independently as well as part of a team. The job also requires the candidate to work in a dynamic warehouse environment performing various tasks, including documentation of product status and assisting with return merchandise repairs. Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to spend prolonged periods standing or sitting is essential to successfully perform the duties.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Proven experience in guitar setup and repair
  • Ability to use measuring instruments accurately
  • Proficiency with hand tools and stationary tools
  • Strong knowledge of musical instruments
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Capability to stand and sit for prolonged periods
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently

Job Qualifications

  • Guitar setup skills including nut cutting, action setting, truss rod adjustment, intonation, and soldering
  • Measuring instrument skills such as reading rulers, using calipers, feeler gauges, and multi-meter
  • Hand tool skills including electric drill/driver, screwdrivers, pliers, cutters, soldering iron, and files
  • Stationary tool use like belt sander and drill press
  • Strong musical instrument knowledge
  • Problem-solving mindset
  • Can-do attitude
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Thorough attention to detail

Job Duties

  • Inspect incoming and outgoing guitar products to meet specified standards
  • Adjust and repair guitar products as needed to meet specifications
  • Document guitar product status and report failures to the quality inspection team
  • Assemble and test bass amplifiers
  • Assemble and test bass speaker cabinets
  • Assist team in return merchandise repair
  • Maintain work area and shop cleanliness
