Job Description

This highly regarded Central California Coast hospital is a nonprofit healthcare establishment known for its commitment to exceptional patient care and operational excellence. Serving a diverse and underserved regional population, this 190+ bed acute care hospital has earned multiple prestigious accolades, including a consistent "A" Leapfrog Safety Grade for over a decade and CMS 5-Star recognition. The hospital focuses on fostering strong physician collaboration, progressive leadership, and patient-centered care, making it a standout institution in the healthcare sector. The organization invests heavily in quality, safety, and performance improvement to maintain its high standards and meet evolving healthcare challenges. As a mission-driven facility, it prioritizes serving the community with integrity, innovation, and compassion while expanding quality initiatives that directly impact the health outcomes of its patients.

The hospital is actively seeking a dedicated Quality Improvement Director to lead its growing Quality Management department. This leadership role offers a unique opportunity to influence quality and safety strategies on a system-wide scale by supporting comprehensive patient safety, performance improvement, and meaningful clinical outcomes initiatives. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Quality and Risk Management, the Quality Improvement Director will play a pivotal role in shaping organizational quality outcomes, regulatory readiness, and fostering a patient safety culture. Overseeing a close-knit team of approximately seven full-time employees, the director will collaborate extensively with executive leadership, medical and nursing staff, accreditation bodies, and department managers.

The Quality Improvement Director’s responsibilities encompass leading the organization’s quality initiatives aligned with CMS, Joint Commission, Leapfrog, Vizient, and other national benchmarking efforts. The role demands strong expertise in process improvement methodologies, patient safety event analysis, quality metric education, and data-driven performance enhancement. This leadership position maintains direct visibility with board committees and interdisciplinary teams, ensuring that quality management aligns with strategic goals and regulatory compliance. This environment supports continuous professional collaboration alongside clinical leaders and physicians, fostering a culture of safety and excellence.

Beyond the professional scope, this role offers an exceptional lifestyle opportunity with the hospital situated on California's breathtaking Central Coast. The region boasts beautiful ocean vistas, vibrant vineyards, hiking trails, golf courses, and a relaxed coastal ambiance. The location provides easy access to San Francisco for leisure travel, combined with a community-oriented quality of life that balances professional achievement with personal wellbeing.

Offering competitive compensation and a generous benefits package, this position is ideal for a quality improvement professional seeking to lead and innovate in a supportive, engaged, and mission-driven healthcare organization. The Quality Improvement Director will have a profound opportunity to make a lasting difference in healthcare delivery, influence future quality programs, and contribute to patient safety improvements that resonate throughout the region.
