The role of Quality Systems Manager at PCA is a critical position within the plant management team. This position is designated to uphold quality, environmental, health, and food safety standards to ensure that all products meet the high expectations of customers and regulatory bodies. The Quality Systems Manager supports continuous improvement efforts by leading initiatives aimed at enhancing product quality, food safety compliance, and environmental stewardship. The manager collaborates closely with production teams to maintain robust manufacturing quality systems, from shop floor data collection to customer quality reporting and quality checklists. A vital part of this role is to analyze production and incident data to perform root cause analyses and implement corrective actions that improve process effectiveness and safety outcomes.
In addition to quality control, the Quality Systems Manager is accountable for managing company Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs and serves as the primary liaison to the EHS group. The role includes leading the plant health and safety team, coordinating employee training programs, and supporting internal and external quality and safety audits. Responsibilities extend to maintaining product testing procedures, ensuring the calibration of quality gauges, and developing quality documentation and training for supervisory and operational staff.
This role requires a strong ability to communicate effectively with customers, acting as the lead quality contact to address concerns and strengthen relationships by understanding customer-specific expectations and responding to audits and information requests. Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business, science, statistics, or engineering required
- Seven years’ previous experience in corrugated manufacturing operations
- Five years’ previous experience with lean manufacturing tools such as root cause analysis, five why analysis, and process failure mode and effect analysis
- Experience with food safety and managing food programs
- Ability to create and effectively lead teams
- Experience developing and executing training initiatives
- Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Strong analytical skills with ability to identify opportunities for improvements and conduct deductive reasoning
- Strong negotiation and persuasion skills
- Strong communication skills with ability to communicate effectively to solicit buy-in from various audiences
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively lead and communicate with production team and management
- Strong listening, evaluating, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment
- Previous work experience as a member of a team or strong understanding of importance of open communication
- Must be able to travel as necessary and possess a valid U.S. driver’s license

Job Duties
- Support and maintain a culture of continuous improvement across the plant by developing and implementing the action plan to meet corporate and customer standards
- Collaborate with production teams to manage, maintain, and improve manufacturing quality and food safety systems including shop floor data collection, customer quality reporting system, and quality checklist system
- Facilitate and maintain company environmental, health, and safety programs including communications, conducting employee trainings, and supporting audits
- Serve as the key point of contact for the EHS group and lead the plant health and safety team
- Analyze production and incident data, conduct investigations, identify root cause, identify process improvement opportunities, and implement quality and safety protocols
- Serve as lead quality contact with customers to address concerns and strengthen relationships, maintain knowledge of customer expectations, respond to audits and information requests
- Write programs and coordinate processes to maintain quality, food safety certifications, and environmental permitting
- Provide timely cost of quality, product/process quality, and safety data collection and analysis for improvement
- Manage and maintain product testing and ensure proper calibration of quality gauges
- Document quality procedures and train supervisors and operators on quality processes
