Job Description
Leidos Defense is a prominent division within Leidos, a global industry and technology leader that serves government and commercial customers with smarter, more efficient digital and mission innovations. Headquartered in Reston, Virginia, Leidos operates with a workforce of approximately 47,000 employees worldwide and reported annual revenues around $16.7 billion for the fiscal year ended January 3, 2025. The organization is recognized for delivering a diverse portfolio that spans defense, intelligence, civil, and health markets, offering enterprise and mission IT solutions, large-scale intelligence systems, command and control, geospatial and data analytics, cybersecurity, logistics, training, and intelligence analysis and operations support. Their commitment to tackling the world's toughest security challenges with innovative technology solutions makes them a trusted partner in national security missions.
The Leidos Defense office in San Diego, CA, is seeking a highly skilled Quality Engineer to join their Quality Assurance Department Program. This program provides critical quality assurance, control, inspection, and technical installation support specifically for PEO IWS5 NAVSEA SONAR SQQ-89 A(V)15 and Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) C4ISR installation programs. These programs are highly complex and involve cutting-edge naval technology for the United States Navy, tackling multi-domain operational challenges that span land, sea, air, space, and cyber realms.
In this role, the Quality Engineer will be responsible for overseeing and inspecting the electrical, electronic, and mechanical system installations on DDG and CG class ships. This position plays a vital role in ensuring that all installation items adhere strictly to the contracts, statements of work (SOW), task orders, and engineering drawings as per applicable military standards, commercial practices, OSHA, and local guidelines. The Quality Engineer acts as a vital liaison between ship forces, shipyards, and NAVSEA customers to identify, resolve, and prevent quality and safety issues, fostering a culture of operational excellence and compliance.
The candidate will be expected to support the installation and fabrication processes for a range of shipboard systems, including multi-pin connectors, fiber optics, CAT5 cables, electrical power panels, transformers, and grounding systems. Attention to detail is paramount when performing comprehensive tests and inspections such as I, V, and G inspections while ensuring electrical safety and surface preservation. The Quality Engineer will also develop, prepare, and review quality plans of action and QA documentation, including reports and workbooks that align with NAVSEA standards and contractual requirements.
Leidos Defense values professionals who are proactive, detail-oriented, and able to manage complex quality assurance initiatives under demanding conditions. This position requires proficiency in MS Office applications and strong oral and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. Candidates must have a valid US passport and an active DoD Secret Clearance at the time of hire, underscoring the sensitive nature of the work.
The pay range for this Quality Engineer role is $59,150 to $106,925, reflecting the level of expertise, experience, and responsibility demanded by the position. Leidos designs competitive compensation packages to attract and retain top-tier talent and offers a comprehensive suite of benefits including health and wellness programs, income protection, paid leave, and retirement plans. The company is committed to maintaining a non-discriminatory hiring process and values diversity and inclusion across all levels.
With a focus on innovation, speed, and excellence, Leidos encourages candidates who are driven to disrupt and innovate in the defense sector to apply. Joining Leidos Defense means becoming part of a dynamic team that surpasses industry norms and embraces challenges with a forward-thinking mindset. This is more than a job; it is an opportunity to contribute to critical national security missions that require precision, dedication, and technical expertise.
