Quality Control Technician - Water Testing Role The Quality Control Technician - Water Testing at Nautique Boat Company plays a pivotal role in maintaining the high standards that the company is known for. This full-time position involves conducting thorough on-water and in-process production testing of boats. The technician ensures that every system on the vessel meets stringent quality, safety, and performance benchmarks before the boat reaches the customer. Responsibilities include verifying the functionality of boat components, identifying and documenting any defects, and guaranteeing that each vessel aligns with Nautique’s expectations for performance and craftsmanship.
The technician executes standardized test procedures covering engine performance, steering and control systems, ballast and surf systems, electrical and electronic systems among others. Beyond the functional checks, cosmetic inspections before and after water tests help identify defects that could impact the boat’s value and user experience. The role requires documenting findings accurately and escalating nonconformance using the company’s quality control systems. Troubleshooting capability is crucial to address issues identified during testing, and the technician re-tests boats after repairs to confirm corrective measures are effective.
Working closely with the Design and Development team, Production, and Quality teams, the technician supports product quality enhancements and ensures smooth resolution of issues. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- Vocational or technical school, certification, training or apprenticeship preferred
- 5 years to 7 years of mechanical experience in marine and/or automotive industry required
- Requires specialized technical or trade knowledge gained through formal training or certification
- Knowledge of boat operation and on-water testing procedures
- Must successfully complete a state-approved boating safety course
- Must meet Florida boating safety requirements for operating a motorized vessel
- Must successfully pass company-required boat operation evaluation
- Must be a licensed driver with a good driving record, subject to MVR
- Ability to operate boats safely and confidently
- Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills
- Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
- Effective communication, teamwork, accountability, and safety awareness
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Performs on-water testing of completed boats to verify performance, handling, and system functionality
- Executes standardized test procedures for engine performance, steering and control systems, ballast and surf systems, and electrical and electronic systems
- Conducts pre-water and post-water test inspections to identify cosmetic, mechanical, and functional defects
- Verifies completion of required production and quality checks prior to release to the next operation
- Accurately documents issues found during testing and enters defects into quality systems with clear descriptions and supporting details
- Tags and escalates nonconforming boats or systems according to company quality procedures
- Performs basic troubleshooting of boat systems when issues are identified and re-tests boats after repairs to verify corrective actions are effective
