Job Description
PPG is a global leader in the coatings and specialty materials industry, renowned for its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and enhancing surfaces worldwide. Founded on a strong legacy of quality and excellence, PPG serves a diverse range of markets including industrial, transportation, consumer products, and construction. With a presence in numerous countries and a workforce dedicated to protecting and beautifying the world, PPG has established itself as a trusted partner and industry pioneer. The company follows a unique corporate philosophy known as The PPG Way 2030, which emphasizes being customer champions, acting with purpose and speed, operational excellence, competitive ambition, and pride in its culture and impact. This comprehensive approach defines PPG's workplace environment as dynamic and growth-oriented, where employees are encouraged to innovate, collaborate, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
The Quality Control Technician role at PPG is pivotal in maintaining the high standards that the company is known for. Based onsite in Richmond, VA, this position reports directly to the Quality Control Manager and involves hands-on laboratory work focused on testing and validating the properties of wet samples. A key aspect of this role is preparing these samples for spray testing and ensuring that all property testing is precise and reliable, as the results are critical for the product's accurate performance and ultimately, customer satisfaction. The technician will conduct various laboratory tests using standardized methods such as titration, chromatography, spectroscopy, pH measurement, and viscosity testing.
The role demands meticulous attention to detail in recording, analyzing, and interpreting test results, as any deviation from established specifications must be reported promptly. Maintenance and calibration of laboratory instruments and equipment are also essential responsibilities, ensuring that all tools are functioning properly to deliver accurate data. In addition to following standard operating procedures and safety protocols in preparing test samples, the technician must document all activities in compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), which supports quality assurance and regulatory requirements.
This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals who have a foundational knowledge of scientific principles and are capable of performing duties that require physical stamina, such as standing for long periods and lifting materials up to 25 pounds. The technician will be an integral part of a collaborative environment, working closely with production and quality teams to troubleshoot quality issues, resolve non-conformances, and participate in internal audits. This role also contributes to PPG's continuous improvement initiatives by proactively identifying problems and suggesting viable solutions.
PPG prides itself on providing equal employment opportunities and fostering an inclusive workplace where diversity is valued and respected. The company supports career growth and development in a fulfilling work environment that encourages learning and innovation. Benefits and compensation are competitive and reflect the candidate's skills, experience, and geographic location. Importantly, PPG uses AI technology in its hiring process to streamline efficiency while ensuring fairness and transparency, although AI does not make final hiring decisions. Prospective employees are welcomed into a culture that champions safety, integrity, customer focus, and pride in the company’s positive impact on the world.
