The position of Quality Control Specialist II - CMM Operator at CoorsTek plays a vital role within this innovative company. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the raw materials, in-process work, and finished goods meet the stringent technical specifications required for quality and reliability. The Quality Control Specialist II works under moderate supervision and employs both visual and precision measurement techniques to detect defects and verify compliance with product standards. They operate complex measuring equipment, including Zeiss and Mitutoyo Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), Smartscope, RAM, and other precision tools such as micrometers, calipers, comparators, and gauge blocks to conduct detailed inspections. Whether approving finished products, conducting internal audits, or training colleagues, the specialist ensures that every product sent to customers adheres to the highest quality standards.

This role requires the ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings with tight tolerances, use Statistical Process Control (SPC) software like Infinity for data analysis, and troubleshoot measurement equipment. Responsibilities include performing measurement calculations, running analytical tests, and occasionally leading inspections or acting in a supervisory capacity when necessary. The Quality Control Specialist II is also responsible for maintaining consistent inspection procedures and helping improve quality system compliance across the manufacturing floor.

This position offers a swing shift schedule from Monday through Friday, 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM, with a shift differential of $2.50 per hour. New hires must complete a one-week orientation during the day shift before transitioning to the swing shift. Required educational qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED with 2 to 4 years of relevant inspection experience, particularly in CMM operation and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications complement the technical expertise necessary for success in this position.

Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2-4 years of applicable product inspection experience

Job Duties

  • Perform visual and measurement inspection tests including calculating distances, angles, radius tapers, thread and gear data using complex measuring equipment
  • Operate CMM equipment including Zeiss Brand and Brown and Sharp Brand CMM Machines
  • Utilize precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, comparators, master gauge blocks, indicators, surface gauges, surface plates, sine bars to inspect parts
  • Approve finished products by confirming specifications, conducting tests, and communicating required adjustments
  • Read and interpret complex technical drawings incorporating tight tolerances into inspection process
  • Input and analyze statistical data using Infinity or other SPC software
  • Troubleshoot and operate inspection equipment, reporting issues as needed
  • Act as go-to person for quality control inspection procedures and conduct training
  • Perform analytical testing and measurement calculations
  • Direct other inspectors in absence of team lead or supervisor
  • Conduct internal audits according to company and customer quality standards
  • Work any assigned shifts as needed
