The role of a Concrete Field Technician at Ernst Concrete is critical in upholding the company’s commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. This position focuses on overseeing the accurate placement, curing, and finishing of concrete at various job sites, ensuring that every project complies with stringent specifications and industry standards. The Concrete Field Technician will use their expertise to conduct comprehensive field testing of fresh concrete, applying recognized ASTM and ACI testing procedures. Responsibilities involve administering slump, air content, unit weight, and temperature tests, as well as preparing specimens for laboratory strength testing.
In addition to testing, the technician plays an integral role in communicating with contractors, engineers, and project managers to promptly address any quality concerns or deviations from project requirements. Documentation and detailed record-keeping are essential components of the position, guaranteeing that all observations and test results are accurately recorded and reported. The Concrete Field Technician also assumes responsibility for operating and maintaining testing equipment in line with industry protocols while ensuring compliance with all safety regulations to promote a secure working environment.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in concrete field testing or construction quality control preferred
- Ability to interpret technical specifications and drawings
- Valid driver’s license
- Physical ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Ability to communicate effectively with contractors, engineers, and project teams
- Familiarity with ASTM and ACI concrete testing standards
- Ability to operate field testing equipment
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to maintain accurate records
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is a plus
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I certification or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe
- Knowledge of ASTM C94, C31, C39, and other relevant concrete testing standards
- Previous experience in concrete field testing or construction quality control preferred
- Strong attention to detail and ability to interpret technical specifications and drawings
- Good communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to multiple job sites
- Physical ability to lift and transport concrete test samples and perform fieldwork in various weather conditions
Job Duties
- Monitor job-site activities to ensure proper placement, finishing, and curing of concrete in compliance with project specifications
- Communicate with contractors, engineers, and project managers to address any quality concerns or deviations from specifications
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of test results, inspections, and site observations
- Perform field testing of fresh concrete, including slump, air content, unit weight, and temperature tests per ASTM standards
- Prepare and transport concrete test specimens for laboratory curing and strength testing as required
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and report any unsafe conditions
- Operate and maintain field testing equipment in accordance with industry standards
- Assist with mix adjustments and troubleshooting concrete issues on-site to deliver quality concrete to the customer
