Serving some of the most demanding markets globally, the company prides itself on technological innovation, superior quality, and responsiveness that drive its continued growth. As a privately-owned American company, OTTO Engineering places significant emphasis on its employees, a philosophy reflected in its profit-sharing initiatives and sustained investment in community and business growth. OTTO Engineering operates with a focus on long-term business success while fostering an environment of teamwork and shared achievement among its workforce.
The Quality Assurance Calibration & Metrology Specialist role at OTTO Engineering is a vital position within the Quality Control (QC) department. This specialist will manage OTTO's calibration program and support inspection activities, ensuring product quality, compliance with standards, and accuracy in measurement. This role encompasses oversight of both internal and external calibration activities, maintenance of calibration records, execution of precise inspections, and support for quality system initiatives including continuous improvement and audit readiness. Members of the QC team enjoy a collaborative environment characterized by camaraderie paired with a strong commitment to operational excellence. The role demands expertise in surface plate layout inspections, operation and programming of Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), and usage of precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, thread gages, and optical equipment. Understanding ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), along with familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9001, AS9102, and ISO/IEC 17025 standards, is essential for success.
Beyond technical responsibilities, the role involves maintaining calibration schedules, reviewing calibration certifications for accuracy, investigating out-of-tolerance issues, and supporting corrective actions related to measurement systems. The Calibration & Metrology Specialist will also conduct incoming, in-process, final, and first article inspections to verify product conformance against engineering drawings and specifications. Further, the role supports quality system activities such as Material Review Board (MRB) processes, internal audits, Measurement System Analysis (MSA), and Gage R&R studies. This position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Candidates must have an associate degree in a technical field or equivalent experience, with a minimum of three years in a manufacturing quality environment. Experience with surface plate inspections is mandatory, and familiarity with Zeiss CMMs and Calypso software is highly desirable. Certification as an ASQ Certified Calibration Technician (CCT) or Certified Quality Technician (CQT) is preferred. The role demands strong mathematical aptitude, attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the flexibility to work nonstandard hours as necessary.
The compensation for this role reflects the hiring range of $22.00 to $28.00 per hour, dependent on qualifications and experience, with profit-sharing bonuses distributed biannually. OTTO's benefits package is comprehensive, including multiple medical insurance options, dental and vision insurance, 401(k) with company match, life and disability insurance, paid holidays, and various company celebrations fostering a positive work culture. OTTO Engineering is an equal opportunity employer committed to providing accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities.
