Job Description
Pennant Ingredients is a reputable company operating within the food manufacturing industry, specializing in the production and supply of high-quality ingredients for bakery and other food applications. Based in the USA, with a specific job location in Rochester, NY, the company is committed to delivering safe, high-quality products that meet or exceed customer expectations while maintaining rigorous standards of food safety, quality assurance, and operational excellence. As a leader within the quality assurance sector, Pennant Ingredients emphasizes continuous improvement, a culture of safety and accountability, and adherence to good manufacturing practices. The company fosters a professional and collaborative work environment where employees are encouraged to develop their skills and contribute meaningfully to achieving organizational goals.
The position of Quality Assurance Baker at Pennant Ingredients plays a crucial role in supporting product quality initiatives through rigorous bakery testing and quality verification activities. This full-time, permanent role involves evaluating the quality, consistency, functionality, and food safety of raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods. The individual in this role will conduct bake tests according to established formulas, recipes, and customer specifications, perform sensory and analytical evaluations, and ensure all quality-related activities comply with GMPs, SOPs, BRC standards, and other food safety programs. The role necessitates close collaboration with Production, R&D, and Quality teams to confirm that all products meet Pennant Ingredients' stringent standards and customer requirements.
Key responsibilities include performing bake tests, conducting appearance, texture, flavor, volume, and color assessments of finished baked goods, as well as analytical testing such as pH and moisture content measurements. The QA Baker will maintain accurate quality documentation and records, monitor compliance during the manufacturing process, and manage retain samples per company quality procedures. Additionally, the role requires daily calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment, participation in root cause analysis and corrective action initiatives, and support during internal, customer, and regulatory audits. The position demands a keen attention to detail, proficiency in Microsoft Office and data entry systems, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
Educationally, candidates must possess at least a high school diploma or GED. However, the role prefers candidates with an associate's or bachelor's degree in Food Science, Baking Science, Quality Assurance, Microbiology, or a related field. Candidates should have a minimum of two years of relevant experience in bakery, food manufacturing, or quality assurance environments, with strong knowledge of baking principles, ingredient functionality, and food safety systems such as HACCP and BRC. Familiarity with SAP or similar manufacturing software and previous experience within a BRC-certified food manufacturing facility is highly desirable.
Candidates must be prepared for a dynamic work environment requiring frequent standing and walking, the ability to lift and carry weights up to 50 pounds occasionally, and the physical ability to bend, reach, stoop, kneel, and climb as needed. They will work around manufacturing equipment and food allergens, including wheat, dairy, egg, and soy. Overall, the Quality Assurance Baker is integral to upholding Pennant Ingredients' mission by ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality bakery products through meticulous quality control and assurance practices.
Hourly compensation for this position ranges from $24.00 to $30.00, depending on skills and experience. This role appeals to professionals dedicated to quality excellence within the food manufacturing sector who are eager to contribute to a high-performing, safety-focused team.
