Job Description

ADM, headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, is a global leader in human and animal nutrition and the premier agricultural origination and processing company in the world. With a rich history of industry-advancing innovations and a comprehensive portfolio of ingredients and solutions, ADM is dedicated to unlocking the power of nature to provide access to nutrition worldwide. Their expertise spans food, beverages, health and wellness sectors, with a strong commitment to sustainability. ADM's operations include seed-to-solution capabilities that enrich the quality of life around the globe. The company fosters a diverse and inclusive work environment where every employee is valued for their unique perspectives, helping drive innovation and growth.

This specific opportunity is for the position of Quality and Food Safety Manager at the Mt. Vernon Flour Mill located in Mt. Vernon, Indiana. This is an exempt level operational leadership role, pivotal in maintaining ADM's high standards of quality and food safety within a critical production facility. The Quality and Food Safety Manager (QFS Manager) will oversee all aspects of the quality and food safety department, managing a team of 3 to 5 individuals and reporting directly to the Plant Manager.

The QFS Manager will take a leadership role in developing and implementing programs and standard operating procedures tailored to meet and exceed Food and Drug Administration (FDA), British Retail Consortium (BRC), organic, gluten-free, and various customer audit standards. This role demands someone who excels at training and developing operational staff, fostering a food safety culture integrated with plant-wide safety practices, and maintaining high production and efficiency standards.

A strong operational presence is critical, with around 50% of their time spent on the plant floor through daily walk-throughs and direct engagement with frontline teams. They will support multiple systems including ADM Weigh, APecS, Sphera, PolicyTech, and TLC to ensure compliance and support continuous improvement efforts. The manager will also collaborate with ADM’s Quality Center of Excellence and Food Safety personnel, playing a key role in safety audits, production support, and regulatory compliance.

This position involves managing and improving prerequisite programs for quality management, overseeing investigations of non-conformities with thorough root cause analyses, and ensuring site readiness for internal and external quality audits. The manager will also drive the cost of poor quality initiatives and assist with FSMA implementation related to intentional adulteration and food defense vulnerability assessments.

Ideal candidates will bring to the table a preferred four-year degree or equivalent experience, preferably seven years in food safety. Familiarity with milling or manufacturing environments is highly desirable. A Preventive Control Qualified Individual (PCQI) training certification is preferred. Effective communication skills across all levels of personnel and the ability to lead teams and develop engaging training programs are essential. The role also requires strong organizational skills, proficiency with document management and data systems, and a problem-solving mindset that leans on data and information to make informed decisions.

Working conditions at the facility include exposure to variable temperatures, dusty environments, and potential allergens, which candidates should consider. Relocation assistance is available. ADM encourages applicants who may not meet every single qualification but are passionate about contributing to the role or other openings within the company. Applicants will be subject to background checks as a condition of employment.

Overall, this position offers a robust opportunity for an experienced quality and food safety professional to join a global leader and contribute meaningfully to ensuring the highest standards in food production quality and safety while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.
