Job Description
Titan America, LLC, is a prominent environmentally and socially responsible heavy building materials company operating primarily in the eastern United States. As a proud member of the TITAN Group, Titan America benefits from being part of an independent, multi-regional conglomerate that produces and distributes cement and related building materials across 13 countries. With a rich history dating back to 1902, the TITAN Group has demonstrated consistent growth and commitment to quality, employing over 5,500 people worldwide. Titan America’s product portfolio includes cement, aggregate, ready-mixed concrete, and fly ash beneficiation, all of which play crucial roles in safeguarding human life, protecting property, enhancing the quality of life, stimulating economic growth, and connecting communities.
The role of Concrete Quality Control Technician is a vital position within Titan Virginia Ready Mix, a division of Titan America located in Richmond, VA. This full-time hourly opportunity reports directly to the Quality Manager and centers on ensuring that ready-mixed concrete products meet stringent quality standards, complying with regional, state, and federal regulations. The role encompasses a variety of technical responsibilities including sampling and testing concrete production, continuous monitoring of production procedures, and performing plant inspections to validate compliance with project specifications and QA guidelines. The candidate is expected to conduct both on-site job testing and comparative assessments alongside independent testing agencies, ensuring that quality benchmarks are maintained from plant to job site.
Effective communication forms a core part of the role, involving regular interaction with customers, testing laboratories, dispatch, and plant supervisors to discuss mix utilization and admixture dosage rates. Additionally, the technician will support sales and production departments by addressing quality-related customer inquiries and complaints, and participate in detailed analysis of claims to identify root causes linked to production or process issues. The role may also entail backup responsibilities as a plant operator, contributing to the safe and efficient production of ready-mix concrete.
Ideal candidates are expected to bring at least one year of experience in ready mix concrete, quality control, or related industries. While a high school diploma or equivalent is essential, preference is given to candidates pursuing or possessing certifications such as VDOT Plant, ACI Field Testing, Aggregate, and Lab Technician certifications, which should be attainable within six months of hire. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, as well as proficiency in computer applications including Windows, Excel, Adobe, and MS Office, are necessary to thrive in this detail-oriented and dynamic environment.
Working conditions for this role involve exposure to outdoor elements including extreme temperatures and the physical demands of standing, walking, climbing, and lifting. Flexibility is key as the position may require varied shifts including nights, weekends, and overtime, alongside travel between sites. Titan America supports its employees with a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, matching 401K, and paid vacation and holidays. As an Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action employer, Titan America is committed to fair and impartial treatment for all applicants. This position offers an excellent opportunity to join a reputable leader in the heavy building materials industry, contributing to projects that impact communities and infrastructures positively and sustainably.
