Located in Tampa, Florida, this opportunity is for a QC Microbiologist I, a role integral to ensuring the safety, quality, and regulatory compliance of pharmaceutical products manufactured and distributed globally. The position involves performing essential microbiological testing, environmental monitoring, and quality control activities that maintain the high standards expected of Lonza’s products. The QC Microbiologist I will collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality assurance, and external laboratories to facilitate timely product release and ensure compliance with industry regulations and customer specifications. Responsibilities include conducting routine and specialized microbiological assays such as raw material and finished product testing, water sampling, microorganism identification, and media sterility checks. The role also supports laboratory quality through the investigation of deviations, corrective action implementation, method validation, and preparation of audit documentation. Given the nature of the work environment, the role may require travel between multiple sites within Tampa and flexible working hours including weekends, holidays, or 12-hour shifts. Job Requirements
- Science-based associate's degree
- minimum 3 years microbiology experience in pharmaceutical cGMP environment
- knowledge of microbiological testing and aseptic techniques
- experience with environmental monitoring programs
- familiarity with USP and regulatory requirements
- proficiency in laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and electronic quality management systems
- strong analytical and organizational skills
- ability to work independently and under pressure
- willingness to travel locally between sites
- flexibility to work weekends, holidays, or 12-hour shifts if needed
Job Qualifications
- Science-based associate's degree
- at least 3 years of microbiology experience in a pharmaceutical cGMP environment
- knowledge of microbiological testing techniques, aseptic practices, and environmental monitoring programs
- familiarity with USP and regulatory requirements and microbiological investigations
- experience using laboratory systems such as LIMS and electronic quality management systems
- proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and data analysis tools
- strong analytical, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams
Job Duties
- Perform microbiological testing of raw materials, in-process samples, stability samples, utilities, and finished products
- conduct environmental monitoring activities, including water sampling, testing, and data trending
- perform microorganism identification, growth promotion testing, and media sterility testing
- investigate laboratory deviations, support corrective actions, and prepare accurate documentation
- execute method validations, equipment qualifications, and microbiology-related projects
- review microbiology procedures and support internal, customer, and regulatory audits
- partner with manufacturing, quality, and external laboratories to ensure compliance and timely product release
- travel locally between sites in Tampa when required, including weekend, holiday, or 12-hour shift coverage
