The role of Purchasing & Procurement Supervisor is a full-time, exempt position with a competitive salary range of $80,000 to $100,000 annually, depending on experience. This role is 100% onsite in Phoenix, Arizona, making it essential for candidates to be available and responsive to the dynamic needs of the food manufacturing operation. The Purchasing & Procurement Supervisor will play a critical role in managing the sourcing, procurement, and supplier management functions that underpin the manufacturing process. This position requires a strategic thinker and a strong negotiator who can balance cost control with quality assurance while complying with food safety standards and regulatory requirements.
The supervisor will oversee purchasing activities related to food ingredients, packaging materials, and indirect supplies, including maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) materials. They will build and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure reliability and cost competitiveness, negotiate contracts and pricing agreements, and collaborate with internal teams such as Production, Quality Assurance, Research & Development, Warehouse, and Planning to maintain inventory levels and support new product launches. Additionally, this role requires monitoring market trends, raw material costs, and potential supply chain risks that might impact procurement strategies. The Purchasing & Procurement Supervisor will also be responsible for maintaining accurate documentation and supporting audit processes related to procurement traceability and compliance. Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business administration, food science, or a related field
- 2+ years of experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain, production planning, or a related function within a food manufacturing environment
- experience sourcing ingredients, packaging materials, or production-related materials
- strong communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills
- ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business administration, food science, or a related field
- 2+ years of experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain, production planning, or a related function within a food manufacturing environment
- experience sourcing ingredients, packaging materials, or production-related materials
- strong communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills
- ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- experience in food manufacturing, food processing, beverage, bakery, snack food, frozen food, or related industries
- knowledge of food safety and quality systems, including HACCP, SQF, FDA, and USDA requirements
- experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar platforms
- understanding of inventory management, demand planning, and supply chain operations
- leadership or supervisory experience
- Japanese language ability is a plus but not required
Job Duties
- Manage purchasing and procurement activities for ingredients, packaging materials, and indirect supplies
- develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure quality, reliability, and cost competitiveness
- negotiate pricing, contracts, and service agreements with vendors
- source and procure food ingredients, seasonings, additives, packaging materials, labels, corrugated products, and MRO supplies
- monitor inventory levels and collaborate with Production, Warehouse, and Planning teams to prevent shortages and minimize excess inventory
- ensure all purchased materials comply with company specifications and food safety requirements
- partner with Quality Assurance and R&D teams on new product launches, supplier qualification, and material approvals
- analyze market trends, raw material costs, and supply chain risks to support strategic sourcing decisions
- resolve supplier performance issues, delivery delays, quality concerns, and invoice discrepancies
- maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier performance metrics, and procurement documentation
- support internal audits, customer audits, and regulatory inspections by ensuring procurement traceability and compliance
