Job Description

J&P Hospitality/Asset Management is a reputable company specializing in hospitality and property management services, known for its dedication to maintaining high standards in guest services and property operations. The company operates across various properties, focusing on providing a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all guests and staff. With a commitment to excellence, J&P Hospitality emphasizes quality upkeep and operational efficiency in every aspect of their managed properties.

The Public Spaces Attendant (Custodian) role is a vital position within the Property Operations department at J&P Hospitality. This non-exempt, on-site role reports directly to the General Manager and is centered around ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of the hotel’s public areas, laundry facilities, and exterior grounds. The role demands a proactive approach to maintaining public spaces such as lobbies, restrooms, hallways, stairwells, and shared spaces by regularly cleaning and sanitizing these areas to uphold health and safety standards. Additionally, the attendant supports laundry operations by washing, drying, and folding laundry to assist the housekeeping team efficiently.

Besides indoor duties, the Public Spaces Attendant is responsible for maintaining the exterior grounds. This includes tasks like picking up trash, emptying trash cans, sweeping entryways, and cleaning the dumpster area to ensure the hotel’s outdoor appearance is inviting and orderly. An essential component of the role involves monitoring common areas for safety hazards and promptly reporting any issues to the General Manager to prevent potential risks to guests and staff. In emergency situations such as fire alarms, water leaks, or electrical outages, the attendant is expected to respond quickly and appropriately to mitigate any disruption or danger.

Competence in using cleaning products and tools safely and adhering to training and safety guidelines is necessary. The role also involves performing light maintenance duties, such as changing light bulbs, unclogging drains, or resetting breakers, following adequate training. This multi-faceted position contributes both to the guest experience by helping prepare rooms for check-in and to the operational side by responding to urgent maintenance or safety matters swiftly.

Working as a Public Spaces Attendant requires physical stamina and the ability to perform a range of physical tasks, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing stairs, and crouching for extended periods. The position involves lifting or moving weights up to 25 pounds independently and up to 100 pounds with assistance. Other physical capabilities include repetitive hand and arm movements for tasks like sweeping, vacuuming, wiping, and mopping, as well as having the sensory ability to detect odors and visual acuity for safety purposes.

J&P Hospitality fosters an inclusive work environment and is an equal opportunity employer that values diversity. The company participates in E-Verify and employs individuals who are legally authorized to work in the United States. Employment in this role demands punctuality, dependability, flexibility to work various shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and a commitment to professionalism and teamwork. This position provides an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking to contribute to a reputable hospitality company and develop their skills within a supportive operational framework.
